This, on its own, doesn't make the league office a joke but when you simply add it on to some of the other idiocy that Bettman and his boys have been behind, then yes, it's a joke.
Apparently, they think that a spry youngster named Peter Forsberg could be the solution. In other news, winger Tomas Fleischmann is out for the season following the discovery of a blood clot in each of his lungs. This hurts the Avs, Fleischmann has 8 goals and 13 assists in the 22 games since the trade and the Avs really don't have anybody to pick that slack up.
^I'll let you have Jody Shelley from the Flyers! He's an offensive weapon, for certain.

I whole-heartedly endorse such a run. You can do it!Flyers need to go 8-23-1 to match their point total from last year.
Well, as many people suspected, the Islanders have given a great, big "fuck you" to the Red Wings.
So far, it's not working out for Nabby, and that's about it. His fault, though. He and his agent had to have known that this was a serious possibility. New York had every right (and need) to pick him up and risked little in doing so. All the Isles have really lost is a bit of dignity, and that's saying very little these days.Well, as many people suspected, the Islanders have given a great, big "fuck you" to the Red Wings.
So far it's not working out so good for Garth Snow, is it?

And regarding the game today:I've been enjoying the weekend so far. The draft was a great idea that was taken in stride and I appreciated that it was left to that. The only problem I had with it was the TSN Panel trying to make it more serious than it actually was.
As for the Skills competition, I liked that as well. Yeah there were a few hiccups along the way (like transferring down to the on Ice crew, or the electric difficulties, or the waits between events, which wasn't an issue because I DVRed the thing) but overall the events were really good.
The Break Away challenge was entertaining, but the wrong guy won. PK Subban showed a lot more flare and personality than anyone else but because Ovie is Ovie, it was just a popularity contest anyway.
Really loved the Relay thing because it was a showcase of "skills." I mean when you're watching a game, you might see some skills, but they aren't all that obvious because you're tracking the puck or something. Hardest shot doesn't really apply, or accuracy shooting doesn't really apply. Everything in that relay race incorported the entire night almost (Except for maybe Hardest Shot) and allowed many players to show off the skill of the game. I think the Camera work could be tighter, but I thought for a skills competition, it was the best event of the night.
Chara doing Hardest shot is insane, but he has competition with Shea Weber now. Very entertaining rivalry that might start between the two.
I agree that they need to bring back the Young Stars game and maybe get rid of the elimination shootout. I mean the Rookies are invited to the All Star site, but they will end up not doing very much. If you want to show off the rookies, let them play. Also, it was a rookie game that convinced me that I wanted to change up the overtime format so you have 5 minutes 4 on 4, 5 minutes 3 on 3, and then if it's still tied, do a shootout. If teams really work on 3 on 3 situations if we had that format, I could see some good hockey showcased in overtime.
Overall though, the NHL has had a good weekend so far. Heck, I was listening to ESPN Radio last night and the host (I think it was Mike Salk) was talking about the NHL changing up it's format and how the NBA could take lessons and maybe up the stakes. If this format is getting people talking about the NHL who wouldn't talk about the NHL (And Amy Lawrence might be the worst personality on radio, and not just because of the fact that she was listing off options other than the NFL and completely ignored the NHL), than I think that's a good thing.
