NHL 2010/2011 season....

I think I may be hallucinating. The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a 2-0 start.
Yep. And Torontonians are already planning the Cup parade route.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Montreal gets outplayed in the 2nd and 3rd periods in Pittsburgh, are down 2-1 in the 3rd...and manage to find a way to win anyway. Pitssburgh had a reason for disliking Montreal for upsetting them last year in the playoffs. now the Penguins have another reason to hate the Habs: P.K. Subban.

I'm getting really, really sick of that joke. The vast majority of Maple Leafs fans are not expecting a Cup win this year. Based on the first two games, I'm hoping we can keep things up and do reasonably well this year, but realistically, I think we'll be happy if we squeak into the playoffs in seventh or eighth. I think this core group can win a Cup, but we're still a young team, and probably need more experience before we have a real shot at competing.

So I really wish everyone would can the lame joke. We're just happy to have a team that's playing decent hockey.

^^ I didn't mean it as a personal dig. Truth is I too get tired of many predictions for any team this early off in the season, particularly by many of the talking heads on TV. A team can get off to a great start and then run out of steam as the season progresses or they can start out poorly and then get into an awesome groove. But many start making insane predictions with only a couple of games in about "this team will be amazing this year" or "this team will struggle."

I prefer to wait about ten or twenty games in to get something of a better handle on how a team is developing.

^ Sorry, I guess that was a bit snappish on my part. I just see that "plan the parade" comment all the time, and it gets really grating after a while.

I'm with you, btw, it is tough to predict where a team will go in the first few weeks; see the Flyers from last year for a perfect example. I think Leafs fans (and I, personally) are just glad to see the team playing solid hockey, and not kicking things off with a massive losing streak. ;)

He's been hated by Pens' fans since he injured Staal. He was loudly booed every time he touched the puck tonight.

The game had one funny moment when Malkin somehow managed to get one of the advertisements from the boards stuck in his pants. He was skating around with the thing trailing behind him like a tail.

I'm also happy to see the Leafs off to a decent start. First time they've started a season with back to back wins since 1999. And, as they said during the game a couple times, it took until November for them to get their second win last year. So, hopefully, we'll be more competitive this year.

And Tim Brent? Basically, a career AHL player has a goal in both of the first two games. Good for him. He's gotta be feeling pretty good considering how shocked people were he made the team.

I almost feel for Anaheim. Two losses and in those two games, outscored 8-1.

Good God. New Jersey has literally no space to call up replacements because of their salary cap hell.

They were only able to dress 17 men (and just 9 forwards ) today because of two injuries and a suspension. They don't even have a full compliment of forwards when healthy.

And the Leafs are officially off to their best start since 1999. They never really outplayed the Penguins tonight, but they played tough when they needed to and The Monster stood tall in the third.

:techman:

Are we living in the Twilight Zone?

I've been watching a ton of hockey this week and the one team that has impressed me more than any team I've seen so far is the New York Islanders. They played the Rangers well, even won that game, and I really wanted to see the Isles/Caps game yesterday and it was a nail-biter all the way to the end. Really like that Nino Niderreiter and that Peranteau dude was flying all around the Ice. If only they got a better Arena, I think they would be talked about a lot more. Because I got Gamecenter, I wanted to a choose a team from the east to Follow and learn more about. My first choice was the Thrashers (And I might still follow them quite a bit) but this Isles team plays exciting and it's cool. If they can compete against a team like Washington, then I can't wait to see them compete against Crosby, Malkin, and the rest of the Pens tomorrow night.

Other thoughts this week with no Sharks Hockey:

-I was sick on Monday but man I was so involved with Hockey all day. Not only was the Rangers/Islanders game fantastic, but so was New Jersey and Pittsburgh and the Anaheim/St Louis game was fun, just to see the Ducks get their ***** kicked.

-Tuesday really was the Kings home opener. Really followed that game as a know thy enemy kind of thing, and because Atlanta was playing. Slash did a good rendition of the Anthem.

-Tonight's St. Louis/Nashville game was awesome all around. Loved the fight between Reaves and Tootoo and it seemed like Sullivan was going to get that Hat Trick. The Blues just shut him down after the two goals.

One more day before the Sharks finally take the Ice again. Feels like they haven't even started their season yet while all this action is going on from the first week.

Anyone have any idea on what kind of an injury Leclaire has and how long he'll be out? He's the second goalie on my fantasy team, and I wanna know whether to replace him or not.

They were thinking on the telecast that it might have been a hamstring/groin type injury. Haven't heard anything else though.
