NHL 2008-2009 Discussion!

He's right, since when is "sloppy seconds" a verboten term?
Since it denies agency to the woman involved.

It seems like an odd move to me... it's hardly the worst thing Avery has done, or the most mysogynistic thing that's happened in hockey... and yet it's the thing they've chosen to crack down on.

VANCOUVER -- For the first time, a schedule for Roberto Luongo's return is coming into focus.

The Vancouver Canucks have set a best-case scenario time table which would see the NHL team's No. 1 goaltender start Saturday in Edmonton. If it happens, it would be three weeks to the day that Luongo was injured in Pittsburgh versus the Penguins.

Sean Avery will not return to the Dallas Stars this season.

The team made the announcement Sunday morning, saying the team and Avery's representatives would continue to work together to support the player during "this critical time," but also noted a return to the Stars would not be in the best interests of Avery or the team.

What a shame. :(

;) Dallas knew what they were getting into when they signed the guy, though I feel sorry for his teammates. It's not like they were given a choice on whether they wanted to deal with his antics.

So the big question is where is Mats Sundin going?

I'm going to say the Rangers, for half the cash the Nucks are offering.

 Exactly.

Looks like he won't make his decision today, which goes directly against what Gillis told us. So now Gillis appears completely out of the loop, which doesn't look good for the Nuck's chances.

Great ceremony last night to raise Trevor Linden's number to the rafters. I'll admit it, I got a little teary eyed.

Wow, the Canucks signed Sundin, didnt' think it would happen - I don't know whether to be happy or not....

We've got a playoff preview tonight. The two best teams in the league facing off at the Joe in a half an hour. I've been waiting all week for this game. It will be physical, and I expect it to be really fun.

^ Damn, the Sharks got their butts kicked.

I don't really know what to think of Sundin signing for the Canucks. Hopefully he'll play well and earn the salary. ;)

With Sundin, I'm mostly hoping that he doesn't screw up the chemistry. Even without Luongo, the Canucks are playing well (although typically, the eastern media hasn't bothered to notice that, assuming that they're in a tailspin).

Re: Free agent signing.

I don't know what it is with Vancouver always signing Toronto's sloppy seconds.

Yeah it was a terrible game. It was everything opposite from what I thought. However, I think it might have been a necessary game. It wakes the Sharks up before they get too cocky and they still have a lot of work to do. If you're going to lose, lose big and at least it wasn't a game in the playoffs.

They do it just to wind up those Obnoxious Laff's Fans. But hey The Laff's took on Vancouver's Thicklish Third's by taking Burke and NoNutts on.

Re: Free agent signing.

It is good to see that the city of Chicago has gotten its passion for hockey back. Remember, well, most of the 90's and early 00's when nobody seemed to give a hoot about the Hawks? Apparently, they're leading the NHL in attendance this year! I don't know when this turn around really began--was it post-lockout?

This will be Ty Conklin's third outdoor classic. And is anyone going to (or watching) the Winter Classic this year?
