NFL Training Camp / Preseason 2010

So what is Darrelle Revis looking to get exactly? And how often do players miss an entire season and get what they want the next season?

Are there any stories of players holding out for more money who end up in accidents that end their careers, leaving them with nothing? When J.D. Drew was playing independent baseball rather than accept the amount of money being offered by the Phillies, I was hoping he'd get beaned in the face and have to retire.

* heavy sigh *

When the fuck is TO gonna retire and get arrested for something? At least then we'd know in a few years he wouldn't be on NFLN every day.

I had Sportscenter on in the background yesterday. They were saying that he is losing like $16,000/day in fines, lost a year toward free agency status, and would lose $20M in guaranteed money if the holdout continued past last night.

What idiot is this guy getting advice from?

He's a CB, not a QB. He ain't worth $15M/year.

As a Pats fan, I enjoy watching the drama though. :)

WTF is with the Chiefs listing Thomas Jones ahead of Jamaal Charles on the depth chart? One is 32 years old and broke down at the end of last year, the other is young and put up Chris Johnson-like numbers over 9 games last season.

This really fucks up my fantasy strategy.

You think the Chiefs have it bad? The Bears have Rashied Davis listed as the #3 receiver. :barf:

The problem is, he's one of the elite cornerbacks that can be left on an island and fend for himself without the team worrying about giving up too many big plays. Jabba Rex
s aggressive defense is somewhat dependent on their confidence in his skills, so that they can divert other personnel towards upfield pressure on the quarterback.

I'd dare say he's even better than Ty Law in his hey days (god do I miss those days...).

With that said, the damned Raiders didn't help things when they resigned Asoumugha to that extravagant deal.

"The first two years, worth $28.5 million, are fully guaranteed. In the third year of the contract, if Oakland wants to keep Asomugha, it must pay him the average of the top five highest-paid quarterbacks or $16.875 million, whichever is higher"

Moving on to our Patriots, right now we're in a bit of a bind as Logan Mankins is looking for Jahri Evans type contract which is around $10 million a year (thanks New Orleans, thanks alot for overpaying for a left guard...), and is holding out for a trade as the Patriots will not acquiesce.. More to the point, Nick Kaczur who was supposed to be his replacement, is now sidelined with a potential season ending back injury.

In other words, expect Brady to be crushed a few times from his blind side during the regular season...

What the hell is Mankins thinking? Rightfully or not, guards are an afterthought in the NFL, and usually don't even get drafted until the fourth or fifth rounds. They simply don't make the same money that tackles do.

I think I picked Charles in the third round in one draft. (He was ranked high) This really concerns me.

That O line of theirs is underrated. They're the ones that give Brady the time to find Moss and Welker and usually do a good job of protecting him.

I'm worried he's gonna get pounded this year.

Glen Coffee retired today after only a year in the NFL with the 49ers. I heard this news and I was in shock. I'm guessing this is not going to be a Brett Farve situation mainly because Coffee wasn't even in his prime yet let alone past it. I'm sure he has his reasons for doing this, and it's his decision, but I sure wonder what those reasons might have been. I think the last time I was shocked at a retirement announcement like this one was when Berry Sanders announced it. Now I guess that means Dixon is the back up running back to Gore but I have to admit Coffee was showing some promise. It would have been nice to see it develop more and show his potential.

I was surprised to see that Coffee decided to retire. I didn't expect him to be a futute Hall of Famer, but I thought he had the potential to be a top notch running back.

Exclusive Coffee Interview

Here was a one on one interview with Coffee on why he retired. Like I said, I respect his decision, but he mentioned that his heart wasn't in football even during the 2009 season. My question is really all about the timing. The season ends in January, The Draft is in April and he retires shortly before the season starts? If he retired before the Draft, the 49ers might have been able to use the draft and get a RB. He's right, he could have handled the situation better.

Well, even the Bears realized last night that their offensive line is beyond terrible and got Cutler out of there after one series before he was murdered on the field, replacing him with Caleb Hanie (who has basically cemented his grip on the backup job after his stand-out performances in camp).

And then Antwan Applewhite drilled Hanie into the ground, forcing him to leave the game with a shoulder injury, leaving Cutler and Dan "The Fever" LeFevour as the active quarterbacks on the roster. Oh, and Hunter Hillenmeyer experienced a "significant" foot injury. And Major Wright hurt his finger and is awaiting an MRI.

Some thoughts on the 49ers today, despite it being the first preseason game:

-Smith looked sub par today. Of course he didn't have Gore or Crabtree but he was missing his passes and didn't seem like he could do anything.

-What is Michael Robinson still doing on this team. He is awful and today showed it.

-Anthony Dixon really should get some serious consideration for the back up RB job. With Coffee gone now, this is now a serious competition and Dixon looked excellent today while Robinson looked awful.

-Even in Preseason, Payton Manning is the best QB in Football. I love watching that dude work that offense.

Looking forward to seeing the development in these remaining 3 games. Hopefully Gore plays a snap or two, along with Crabtree, just to benefit Smith instead of waiting for the regular season to start.

I feel bad for Cutler. I really do.

The Bears have two of the best pass rushes in their own division; plus, they have to play four of the other top ten this year.

The guy will be lucky to be alive come the end of the season.

If Cutler somehow manages to avoid decapitation on the field (probably by Suh in Week 1) and survives the season despite the goddamn gutless fucking assholes "blocking" for him, he'll demand a trade next February. The guy's an amazing passer, when he's given more than a one-step drop to make his reads, and I don't think he'll put up with this bullshit much longer.

Edit: Oh, fucking Christ. The Bears are refusing to comment on Major Wright's finger injury until after today's last practice ends.

This is eerily reminiscent of Brian Urlacher missing 15 games last year as a result of a small hand injury.

I hope so. Get him out of the division.

I still maintain what I said last year about it being a bad trade for the Bears. Orton was serviceable enough for the time being, and they could have used those picks to get some O-Line help.

Orton is a perfectly serviceable quarterback who won't lose games. He's not particularly agile, but he's smart, and he won't lose games with horrible throws. He's not a franchise quarterback, though. I don't have any qualms with the Bears flipping a pair of first-round picks for Cutler. Given Jerry Angelo's draft history, those first-round picks would have been disasters, anyway. He needs two components in order to make Mike Martz's offense work -- a speedy wide receiver who isn't a functional retard, and an offensive line that doesn't make him run for his life on every single play.

If Angelo somehow survives the upcoming bloodshed (the Bears are looking like a 5 - 11 team, at best) and keeps his job long enough to handle next year's draft, I'll kill a man. If Martz becomes the head coach, I'll kill said man's children.
