NFL Training Camp / Preseason 2010

Welker had at times become Brady's security blanket, and teams, most notably last year were doing an effective job in stymieing the offense by placing double coverage on him.

123 reception and 1,350 yards of receiving in essentially 13 games is stymied? I hope they do that to Moss and Edelman and the rest of the WRs this year in that case.

T.O. to the Rams???

Owens has been pretty well-behaved in his more recent years. He had some bad times in the broken system and organization of the Cowboys (but who doesn't?), but he had a decent year with the Bills, and I think a lot of teams are shying away from him because of his history. Granted, that avoidance is pretty justifiable, given his prior behavior.

In any event, at this point in his career, he's a possession receiver with occasional bursts of unbelievable speed. He'd be a solid #2 in any system (and, really, a great fit for Mike Martz's offense for the Bears, which is certain to be a televised abortion).

The Patriots have placed Wes Welker on the active / physically unable to perform list, which clears a roster spot for the time being. This isn't the same as the reserve / PUP list, which forces a player to sit out for all of camp and the first six weeks of the season. A player on active / PUP can come off the list at any time.

Basically, this is a risk-avoidance move by the team, as a player can't be added to the physically unable to perform list once camp opens and the player participates. So the Patriots are hedging their bets and keeping open the possibility that Welker may need to sit out for a while -- or he may just need a few more weeks of rehabilitation before he can come back in a limited role.

I'd expect that the team will eventually put him on the reserve / PUP list, though. Belichick tends to play it safe with his core players.

TO and Sam "Glass Shoulder" Bradford. There's a Super Bowl duo right there. :guffaw:

What am I saying, my team will be starting Tim Tebow before the bye week. :(

Yeah, laugh it up Chuckles.

:scream:

Bradford could sure use an experienced Big Target. I just don't want all the drama.

Looks like you dodged a bullet - TO goes to the Bengals for a year and I'm still stuck with Tebow.

The Bengals might be in for some drama with both Owens and Ochocinco. That's an awful lot of ego to deal with between those two.

And only one football for them to share. Should be a fun season.

I'm guessing the other Lions fans on this board are feeling good about the Lions Super Bowl chances too?

The Texans win the Super Bowl this year!

OK, maybe not, but at least we aren't stinking up the league any more. I think the Texans finally get a post season spot this year. Of course I said that last year too.

Actually, I think it has a chance to work out pretty well. Ocho and TO are good friends off the field. TO recognizes he's at the end of his career and he has no ring. Time will tell if the "me love me some me" persona comes back around, but for now I'd say this cautiously is a good gamble.

We're under two weeks away from the start of training camp (check out your team's reporting dates here), and so, finally, the sports wasteland that exists between the end of hockey season and the beginning of football season is almost over. Thank God, too, because if I watch one more Cubs game, I'm liable to shave my head, climb up a tall building and start shooting random passers-by.

Right. Anyway, the biggest news coming into training camp is that the NFL has suspended the Green Bay Packers' Johnny Jolly for all of 2010 and possibly beyond. Ouch.

The other news is, of course, the non-news as Brett Favre continues to hold the Minnesota Vikings hostage, as they head into camp not knowing for sure whether or not they'll have to start Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback. Of course, we all know Favre is coming back. He's just holding off on the announcement and saying that his ankle "still hurts," because if he says everything is fine and he's coming back, it'd be mandatory for him to attend training camp. By him not being direct about his status, he's able to skip until he wants to.

Will the Saints repeat? (Probably not.) Will vuvuzelas make their presence known at NFL stadiums this season? (Almost certainly, and I want the first person who does it shot on sight.) But, as always, it's sure to be an interesting year. Let the discussion begin!

Wait, what's that, Lassie?

The Bears have a new offensive coordinator? And his entire offense is based around the quarterback making 7-step drops while the receivers dart down the field? And it minimizes the tight end, who happens to be their best receiver, by making him a blocker? And they didn't get any new wideouts? And the offensive line is still a bunch of worthless goddamn gutless fucking assholes who couldn't push back a line of kittens? So Cutler will actually get decapitated on the field this year? And the new defensive coordinator is one of Lovie Smith's buddies, who didn't even want the promotion but took it because there was no one else after the team got pantsed by every other candidate? And there's still no secondary? And the same coaching staff is in place? The whole thing?

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Too bad you are not a Yankee fan. lol Lots of excitement there.

Wes Welker has been removed from the Patriots' active / physically unable to perform list (meaning that he cannot be placed on the list again, and will now occupy a spot on the roster unless he's placed on injured reserve), and did full-speed individual drills today. He did not participate in 11-on-11 contact practices, however.

Eight months after he ripped his knee to shreds, he's back on the field. Impressive. I just hope he didn't rush it.

49ers have their first injury of the Camp with Baas getting a mild concussion. Thankfully it's not serious, but hate to start a year with any kind of concussion.

What, there's no talk about Brett Favre being the greatest troll ever and telling the Vikings that he's retiring again?

(Of course, we all know he'll be back on the field about a week before camp closes.)
