NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

Great weekend of football, other than the second half of Chiefs-Ravens. I went to the gym and just watched in the background.

Believe me, more than once, I considered leaving the game early, but I stuck to the bitter end.

At the conclusion of the game, a contingent of Ravens fans gathered in the seats behind the Ravens bench and were celebrating their win. And I couldn't help but wonder what that feeling must be like. I fear I will never know with this pathetic franchise.

From sports talk radio this morning:

"More strange mass bird deaths being reported: 53 eagles found lifeless in Philadelphia yesterday evening."

Even if the Pats get destroyed next week I won't leave a moment early...seeing as I take the gameday train that departs half an hour after the game.

Great win by the Packers. I don't ever want to drink another "Packer backer", though- lime vodka is evil.

I was hoping for a Kansas City/Green Bay Superbowl, but the Chiefs kind of stunk up Arrowhead yesterday. Now I'm hoping for a Pats/Packers Superbowl (a repeat of the 1997 game).

Good weekend of football. Really love those exciting finishes and this weekend featured a ton of them, except for the Chiefs game. Was kind of hoping they would pull more of an effort but it 'twas not meant to be I guess. I'm kind of rooting for Seattle to go further (And if Greenbay wins and Seattle wins, the Hawks host the Championship game. How cool is that?) but Chicago is a tough opponent and the weather conditions might become a factor.

Dammit Eagles. :( Guess it's back to the Phillies for the city now.

Oh well - now I'm all about the Seahawks winning the Superbowl.

:guffaw: Rex Cartman really doesn't know when to STFU and let his team's play do the talking, does he? This only serves as bulletin board motivational material for the Patriots.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- It's personal -- again. This time, Rex Ryan is out for Bill Belichick.

Calling out one of the most successful coaches in NFL history, the New York Jets' coach delivered an unsolicited rant Monday, admitting he was outcoached by Belichick in last month's blowout and vowing to flip the script in Sunday's AFC divisional playoff game against the New England Patriots.

"This is about Bill Belichick versus Rex Ryan," Ryan said, addressing the upcoming showdown in Foxborough for the first time. "There's no question, it's personal. It's about him against myself. That's what it's going to come down to."

He doesn't seem to realize that New England isn't an injury-plagued team the Jets could barely beat like the Colts were. I'm going to relish New England stomping his team till they bleed just to shut him up...till next year, anyway.

I'm really hoping Asomugha signs with the 49ers. It absolutely needs to happen and is a dream I have.

It won't happen. San Francisco plays an almost exclusively zone defense (and will certainly go completely to zone if they land Perry Fewell, as he's a Tampa 2 guy), and Asomugha is strictly a man coverage player.

I just hope he stays the fuck out of the NFC North.

Amen. Rex Ryan's crazy if he thinks he's anywhere close to Belichick's level. I can't wait to watch the Patriots shut these punks up this weekend.

I think he's doing that crap to take the pressure off his team by shifting the attention on himself; if the Jets lose it's going to be his fault and not Sanchez' or whoever, so they can concentrate on the game. It's probably part ego too, but I really think it's more strategy than delusion.

The only problem with this reasoning is that the Jets barely squeaked by a half-dead Colts team. The only thing this does is fire up Belichick who, in turn, will have his team unleash something that makes the 45-3 ass whooping the Patriots administered last time they played the Jets look like a close game in comparison.

I would so love to be in Vegas this week to place my bet against the Jets. I don't care what the spread is--New England's gonna demolish them.

I am really lucky to have tickets to this game. I was at the Monday Night game in December and it was a raucuous scene on the train ride there much less in the stadium. This is gonna make that look like a garden party.

Seriously Rex, just shut up. Your pompous defiant bluster is getting old. You're not some fun loving inspirational coach, you're a preening blowhard. Yeah, you're very talented as a coach, and you've got talented players...just like a lot of teams. Tone down the rhetoric.

You are quickly turning that team from the one with the jolly outspoken coach and ragtag band of castoff players into something easy to root against.

Steelers, Colts, 49ers, Pats, Cowboys, etc. have been hated for being the best over time, you will be hated for completely opposite reasons.

I really hope he ends up with his ( or his wife's foot) in his mouth on Sunday.

I can't believe the Eagles were in a position to win at the end of that game. No business being in that game. Vick should not have rushed the play, but oh well.

That done, here are my wishes for the Eagles' offseason: a decent linebacker; a cornerback to replace Patterson (aka Toast); a new defensive coordinator because Sean McDermott was riding on JJ's coattails and isn't that good.

How about some line help as well? Replacing Patterson is a definite priority. I would go back and forth on McDermott. At times, you'd see flashes of previous Eagles brilliance, but our red zone stat doesn't lie. We used to be bend, not break. We snapped like a twig in the red zone this year.

I'm hopeful a healthy season next year and we'll do better. Two straight Wild Card losses are unexpected for this team.

I'm just not convinced by the Falcons for some reason, and I can't really quantify why.

I suspect it has a lot to do with watching the Eagles beat them with Kolb playing. I did a double take when I saw their record, but, when at home, they are a different team.

Anyway, I'll root for the Ravens for Flacco, the Seahawks because now it's just amusing, and I'll root for the Patriots to lose regardless (so go Jets, I guess).
