NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

I just read that their game against the Jets is a Wild Card game, I'm not to familiar with all of this stuff works but how is that? Does that mean the Jets game isn't a "play-off game" but yet another game they have to win to get into the play offs or is a Wild Card game still a play-off game but somehow different?

The first weekend of the playoffs is known as the 'WildCard' round because it features the two WildCard teams at the two Division winners that are seeded 3 and 4. Plus it is a carry-over from a time when there was only three divisions, all three division winners would have a bye the first week and the wildcards would play each other for the right to advance.

It's just a playoff "level".... you have the two wildcard games, then the division games the next weekend, and then finally the conference championship the third weekend.

I think somebody will be putting together a good package for Tebow. Boy can run and make crazy throws in the NFL. Glad the Broncos let him play.

Seahawks-Rams is the Sunday night NBC game next week.

Also, if anyone cares, Giants-Redskins star time will be pushed forward three hours.

BTW, I don't know or care which team makes the playoffs, but I am praying for the Seahawks to win next week (I presume they'd be the team if they win, though). I kinda want a team with a losing record to make the playoffs. It'll be descriptive of the NFC West.

^ Real Salt Lake had a losing record going into the playoffs and won the MLS Cup!

A losing team hasn't won the Stanley Cup during the recent era of the NHL but it has happened twice in history.

I doubt teams with losing records got very far in the NBA playoffs even though there seems to always be at least one losing team qualifying.

Teams below the fourth seed don't get far in the NBA playoffs. :p

As far as I know, the NFL has never had a team with a losing record make the playoffs.

PAts wrap up #1 Seed in the AFC. Hooray! Didn't get to see that game, as I'm out of state visiting relatives, but followed along on Red Zone and ESPN Gamecast as best I could. It was a rout fairly quick, so I went out x-country skiing. Jets losing was a nice touch too.

To the guy talking about Jets-Chiefs in the first round, you may be getting them at a good time. Since they are in the AFC East I see a lot of them, and they look like crap lately.

Well, the Chiefs have done damn good.... the last two games. The game before that they were blanked (though their first-string QB was out due to an appendectomy) the rest of the games they won this season was either due to luck, errors on the other team's fault, or just being, well, very lucky. They've not shown a ton of "skill" this season (though glimmers of it.) But if they continue to play like they did these last two games they should come out good.

Well we may end up getting Pittsburg/Baltimore. IF Indy wins this weekend and the Chiefs lose to Oakland, then the Chiefs will be the #4 seed and we'll get the higher seeded Wild Card team, which will likely be Baltimore. Not really who we want to see in the first round, but it is what it is.

Great game by the Packers. It sure helped to have Rodgers back, but I was also impressed by the defense (especially Clay Mathews- that guy is a stud). Loved seeing Eli Manning throw all of those interceptions. Hopefully the Pack can play like that next week against Chicago.

Thanks to San Diego, my money league fantasy team went down in flames. And unless I get big points from my two remaining players (and Bonz's Brewzers' remaining players tank), my Trek team is going to finish second as well.

Whoever wins the Seattle / St. Louis game is the NFC West Champion, regardless of what happens in other games. That's why the NFL flexed it to Sunday night. It's the only game that will definitely be "win and in" for both teams playing, regardless of what happens in the early games.

And yes, Cleveland and Detroit were playoff teams in the strike shortened 1982 season at 4-5, but 4-5 is still a better winning percentage than 7-9. If Seattle wins, they'll have the lowest winning percentage of any NFL playoff team ever. And they'll be the only division winners ever to have a losing record.

Niners fire Mike Singletary.

This should come as a shock to absolutely no one on the face of the planet. His inability to deal with QBs this year before taking any other shortcomings into account was enough to seal his fate.

Hopefully he makes a comeback as a coordinator and not a head coach and kicks some butt (in a positive way).

(To chrisspringbob)

Hopefully the Rams will make all of that moot.

Hasselback has an injured ass, and Seattle has lost 7 of their last 9.

We're going Prime Time, Baby!

:techman:

I actually had to cancel my birthday dinner thanks to the rescheduling.

As long as the Rams win, I'm good.

Tebow is starting again on Sunday. I would like to see him demolish the "dreadful" and "late starting" Chargers. What a pile of suck.
