NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

Starting to really like the Pats' chances this year. They really seem to be getting up and stomping the good teams this year. Record against great defenses (and offenses) is really good. (Unlike the Jets, who've basically only beat bad teams, and lost to anyone with a record over .500). Speaking of which, seem to have taken the air out of the Jets bluster after last week :)
I'm not sure which is more deflated, the Jets' ego or the Metrodome.

Okay. That game was.. ugly.

But I'm not entirely sure it was Croyle's fault as he didn't do... too bad. I think the team as a whole, and the coaching was just very conservative.

But, yikes being shut-out that's just... ugly.

But, really, I doubt that would've done better with Cassel there the team just didn't come together and play their best, period.

It does, they did a very good job with renovation.

I got to Kauffman this past Summer in one of the Royals' last home games and I thought it looked really nice if the renovations at Arrowhead are similar then it's a very well-done job. It makes me roll my eyes and even makes me angry whenever I here talk about wanting to build new stadium(s) somewhere else in the area. But really our Sports Complex is very nice, it's cool having the two stadiums next door to one another like that and also not having the stadiums in the mess of peanut-brittle streets downtown. Granted, however, for times where we'd expect to have a bowl game, a World Series or any other major event there or if we really want to attract any real out-of-town visitors to the stadium a better system of getting between the airport, downtown, the Sports Complex, The Plaze and other major areas in the city we need some sort of system put in place to easily transport people around the area. That's what makes me so angry about this area being so reluctant to have a light-rail system installed.

Croyle was 7 of 17 for 40 yards and averaged two and a half yards per attempt. He was bad.

How about the Jets coach tripping the Miami player out of bounds on that punt return?

The Jets are just a really classy organization.

:techman:

Ive never understood why any team in this day needs a "new" stadium... Why not just renovate the Metrodome like they're doing in New Orleans with the Superdome?

There have been proposals to renovate the Metrodome. All turned down. With the current state of the place, it would probably cost just as much - if not more - to renovate it than to build a new stadium.

Besides, not only is the Metrodome itself an obsolete piece of shit, the terms of the Vikings' lease there are also less than optimal. The team gets no money from luxury seating (what little exists) or parking revenue, only a small percentage of concessions sales, has no control over advertisements, and has to pay the commission 9.5% of ticket sales.
Yep. The place is a dump and the team doesn't even have a contract after this year, so no one was in a hurry to to fix the joint (or even make the repairs that were obviously needed). The Metrodome was crappy from the get-go and never embraced by the fans. The snow we had was fluffy and in no way should have collapsed that dump, so I can't help but wonder about the maintenence there.

Anyway, my Packers sure laid an egg today. Thank God the Bears did the same.

I looked at the weather and planned my fantasy accordingly. Made sense at the time, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose to Scout in round one of the TrekBBS league. Should've never benched Shane Graham (12 points) and picked up Raynor (1 pt.). Just one of my oops moves, but that may cost me.

Yeah but I don't really think anyone was working with him very well it seemed like everyone was phoning it in. I'm not sure Cassel would've done much better, frankly. It almost looked like Croyle was dropped in there at the last minute from out of no where and the rest of the team has no idea who this guy was, what he was going there or how to work with him. It's as if they didn't spend the entire week practicing as much as possible to work with this guy. Really. It looked like the entire team, including Haley, went in there wanting Croyle to lose. The way it looks like 2nd-string QBs are treating in practices and overall I wonder why teams bother having them if they're not going to spend just as much time over the practices making them just as much on the same page as the first guy? Because if your second-string guy doesn't get to practice as much, doesn't get to work with the rest of the team as much as is just pretty much a dead weight what's the point in having him?

I really didn't think this season could sting anymore. I could have sworn that I was past the stinging phase and was just on to the sad resignation phase. But today hurt. Denver looked absolutely terrible. In fact, to say Denver looked terrible isn't even fair to the teams that looked terrible. I can't even be mad that the refs were jobbing Denver because I doubt it would have helped if they weren't.

The Denver Broncos: making crappy teams look like Superbowl champs since 2009.

Croyle was bad, but that was a team loss. As I said before in this thread, I expected them to lose, Cassel or no Cassel. I did NOT however, expect them to play like that. Frankly as much as I'd like to see them make the playoffs, they really don't deserve it, and obviously won't make it out of round 1.

The Chiefs control their own destiny, but if they can't get better motivated than they did for this game, they'll lose one or more of their last 3. But I guess considering this was a 4-12 team last year, and a 2-14 team the year before, they've had a good season. Just not "there" yet.

EDIT TO ADD: As for Croyle, he's a free agent at the end of this season. My best guess is that he won't even be in the NFL this time next year.

Don't count yourself out just yet, Pegs. Jackson went full retard for you, and got 20 something points in the 2nd half (200+ yards, 1 TD), so might have given you an edge. See how your WRs do, and I've got the Ravens' defense, my kicker, and Adrian Foster left. Hoping Foster has another big game in him to cancel out what you did last night...

That game was so disgusting that I wasn't even disappointed that CBS switched at halftime to that snoozefest of a Miami game.

I mean, really, Bears? You're going up against a guy who, statistically speaking, is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time when he plays in inclement weather, and you just run your vanilla Tampa 2? Christ, fucking Akili Smith could have shredded that defense. Get fucked, all of you.

I heard on Mike & Mike (or is it "Mike & Molly"?) this morning that in the last three seasons when playing "snow games"... the Pats had outscored their opponent by over 100 - 0 at halftime.

Yesterday was probably the worst day of my life, as my father died. That Pats game was a little distraction and ray of sunshine on an otherwise dreary day.

I'm so sorry, SmoothieX. I lost my Dad on September 19 (which was the day the Bears beat the Cowboys), and I've been in a perpetual funk since then.

I know there's nothing whatsoever that I can say to make things better for you. You're in my thoughts, though. It's a rough experience, but you'll get through it. If you need to rap about it, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

My sympathies to you both.

What's weird is that my mother's death has a tie to football too.

She died the same day Trent Green's knee got blown out in that preseason game against San Diego. We all know what happened after that.

As bizarre as it may sound, that season gave me something to feel positive about during a terribly sad time. It kind of kept me engaged with the outside world when I wanted to withdraw.

My best to you guys.
