NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

LA has had such crappy luck holding onto football teams.

Probably because they always had bad stadia before now. The LA Coliseum is hampered because it can't be renovated (it's a landmark), and we all know what Angel Stadium looked like when the Rams played there. :barf:

Yes, because thousands of fans say each week, "I'm not going to go see my favorite team because the stadium isn't world class."

By that "logic" Cowboys Stadium - the biggest, newest, and best - would be sold out each week.

^ Maybe not, but stadia are often a factor for why a team is NOT where it is. ;)

More often than not, ownership greed is a factor for where a team is or isn't.

99% of people don't care what the stadiums look like. All the fields are the same. It's the quality of the teams that people care about.

Mike Shanahan once again proves he's right along side Dan Snyder in the "I'm fucking looney tunes" department: Donovan McNabb benched for the rest of the season...in favor of Rex Grossman??!?! I could MAYBE understand if they had a young QB they wanted to test out, but McNabb to Grossman is a downgrade without any upside.

I ... wha ... my father-in-law died last night, and then I wake up to discover that the Redskins benched McNabb in favor of the Sex Cannon? Jesus Christ, watching the Redskins' operations is roughly equivalent to watching a drunken, incontinent, autistic baby giraffe stand up for the first time.

stop the train i want to get off

Edit: Holy shit, Shanahan told McNabb on Thursday that he was being benched for Grossman, while John Beck will be the #2 quarterback, and there's no guarantee that McNabb will be back with the team next season. So, let me get this straight.

McNabb posted a >100 passer rating against the Bucs and would have won if his kicker wasn't a fool. McNabb's protection this season has been amongst the worst in the league, statistically and qualitatively. As bad as this season has been, McNabb is / was on pace to break the Redskins' all-time passing yards record. Thus, there's only one logical thing to do...

UNLEASH THE DRAGON.

Candlestick (or whatever it's called these days) might be an exception.

That place is an absolute dump. Terrible location, awful football configuration. It is really unpleasant to go there for a football game.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!?!?!?

Shananhan must have finally discovered the Cracktown neighborhood of Washington DC.

Good grief that's terrible.

And when the Redskins cut him in the off-season they'll owe him a $3.75 million dollar parting gift, thanks to his new contract.

Maybe Shanahan wants to GTFO of dodge as quickly as he can? He's certainly doing a good job of it.

Eh. He just really, really likes benching quarterbacks. I think it's his favorite thing to do, right behind drafting running backs in the second round.

At least Shanahan didn't trade up to be able to take Tebow. Look what that got that football genius.

I don't know. I might've traded up to the 3rd round to get Tebow. He definitely has physical skills, question is whether they get utilized as a quarterback or a tight end/h-back.

He'd probably already be an upper echelon tight end.

I'd like to see Kyle Shanahan land a job with any team that wasn't run by Shanahan or his best friend, Gary Kubiak. I doubt it will happen.

Also, while I know my wife's Dad is rooting for the Bears this weekend, as he had an unrelenting hatred for the Vikings, I have to root for Green Bay over New England, pointless though it may be. We're burying him this weekend (holy cow, my wife and I lost both our Dads within three months of each other), and a Green Bay win would have made him giddy.

The Patriots need to be in a giving spirit if any other team wants to win... ever.

You'll get nothing and like it...I hope.

Would you have traded up to the 1st round to take him?

Depends on a lot of factors. Where do you project him to play, do you project him to be an immediate contributor and what is the cost of trading up.

Broncos traded up with the Ravens to select Florida QB Tim Tebow with the 25th overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Denver paid a significant price, sending Baltimore second-, third-, and fourth-round picks. Clearly, they've got big plans for Tebow the Hero. It remains to be seen what position the Broncos will use Tebow at initially, but they do have a need at pass-catching tight end after trading Tony Scheffler. Josh McDaniels may gauge his progress as a passer on the practice field for a "redshirt" season or two before trying Tebow at quarterback. He's highly unlikely to unseat Kyle Orton or Brady Quinn on the depth chart this year.

Obviously the Broncos' overpaid for the rights to draft him. And he didn't represent a good value for Denver as you have the emerging Kyle Orton ahead of him on the depth chart for the forseeable future. And they made no effort to move him to the tight end position.

It's clear Josh McDaniels didn't inherit Belichek's ability to evaluate personnel.

Didn't they give him an extension too?
