NFL Football 2009

I have to admit, even now that I'm on the positive side of the Favre equation, I'm still getting really sick of it. It's been 24 hours of ball washing.

He hasn't done anything people didn't expect from him. I think part of the problem is the Vikings are a much better team than the national talking heads give them credit for. All they were missing was a quarterback. ANY quarterback. The Packers had so adamantly committed themselves to stopping Peterson (which they did) that they had absolutely no pass rush and weak coverage.

Any professional quarterback should have done what he did last night.

One big concern is the Vikings really need to play better defense up the middle. The zone coverage in the 10-30 yard range up the middle has been awful. Neither the game last night nor the game against San Francisco should have been as close as they were.

^Having Haynesworth sign with the Redskins?

nah they have beaten teams in the past when albert was out hurt.
losing their d coordinator and kevin mawae pretty much playing center with one arm also has had a major impact.
plus now half of the secondary is injured.

but until the last game they were in it close.
but with the jags game they just rolled over and gave up.

the colts are going to slaughter them.

Holy balls, how much more does he have to do to sell you on him? He's fifth in the league in passer rating, sixth in passing yardage and he's only thrown one pick all season. Last year, he was a deity of a minor pantheon. Keep in mind that he's doing it all with a broken-down offensive line that is about as efficient as a turnstile at blocking the pass rush and a running back who is not good at football.

Yeah, I know he's done well and I should have faith in him, but there's something intangible that keeps me from doing so. He has the numbers (despite all the problems with the team), but I just don't see him as an effective leader. It took me about 5 years to warm up to Favre, so maybe I'll get on the Rodgers bandwagon eventually.
It tooke your FIVE YEARS? To warm up to Favre? Was it the second or third MVP award that put you over the hump? :guffaw:
Yep, what can I say? When Favre was winning those awards, I was still cringing half the time he was throwing the ball.

By the way, I still think Aaron Rodgers looks like my dearly departed basset hound.

I agree with that assessment as well. Many factors are piling on as to why the Titans lost their mojo from last year.

Not sure where you are spookha(you in TN?) but for the rest the hype machine here at home for the Titans vs Colts game is "CODE BLUE". Last year was the first 'code blue' and every fan wore their blue and we beat the Colts. Of course we were undefeated going into that game so beating them was expected.

I expect CODE BLUE to turn into CODE RED as Titans bodies start littering the sidelines. If the Jags could dismember us so throughly then I'm not sure I want to see what Peyton's scalpal of an arm will do.

I dunno. I think, in the end, everyone will be saying how the Niners are better off without him. I think he's going to be "one of those" and be nothing but trouble. If they want to better their passing game, then they need a quaterback--and I don't want to hear any of that Shaun Hill nonsense either.

So apparently Rush Limbaugh wants to buy The Rams.

Good Lord. I'm going to have to sign up for TNZ to express myself adequately on this subject.

Timby seems to do quite well in expressing himself on the current state of the Bears.

If Rush does buy the team, at least there will be no shortage of pain pills in the locker room.

This is no laughing matter!

:scream:

What, Rams football or Rush buying the team? I think both have high humor potential. Would Rams fans be called "dittoheads" if the deal goes through?

The Niners start tells a lot of people that Crabtree isn't essential. One thing I haven't heard a lot about is that they went from a 5 year deal to a 6 year deal for roughly the same money. Of course, like any good diva wide receiver, he'll hold out after one or two good years and demand a trade or more money.

Do you think anybody's advising him to file a civil suit against Al Davis for lost wages based on the Raiders totally blowing the draft board up with a crazy pick?

I never liked you....

If Rush Limbaugh buys the team, I can no longer support the Rams. And it pains me deeply, having been a fan for more than 30 years.

OH, pleeeeease.

You'd probably find you don't like the politics of most of the owners. Rush just happens to have made his money speaking on the topic.

Even Ed Hochuli can see this one without instant replay.

Infraction for flaming. Comments to PM

I know we don't talk about warnings, but did you have to bring up the worst call Ed Hochuli ever made.

It seemed to fit. I'm sure "guns" will get some more use in the future.

Speaking of bad calls, we were closing on our first house in 1998, in December. The attorney doing the closing was an NFL linesman who had done Superbowls and had a huge "I love me wall". We got to talking about football and the upcoming vote by the owners to institute instant replay based pretty much on a blown call in the NY Jets - Seattle Seahawks game where Vinny Testaverde was awarded a touchdown. Replays clearly showed he was down a yard or so shy of the goal line.

I didn't say anything about how that official screwed up and it turns out I'm glad I didn't. Back at work that afternoon, I was telling my assistant about it and mentioned his name -Earnie Frantz. The first thing he said was "that's the guy who fucked up the Jets- Seahawks game".
