NFL Football 2009

Some thoughts on some of the games yesterday:

-49ers looked great. Gore had an awesome day, and it sounds like he will be fine since he had I guess an ankle sprain. I could understand that after going 207 years even though I wonder what could have been. Also, that defense has attitude. Clements, Willis, Bly, and Goldstein all had great days and Clements and Willis were all over the field. Some of the tackles I saw in the second half were pretty awesome. I'm not sure how the game in Minnesota will turn out, but the 49ers are 2-0. If they somehow beat the Vikes on Sunday (And sack Farve, say, 4 times), I will be happy. That, and starting the season 3-0 or even 4-0 since they have the Rams at home the next week will be mighty impressive.

-Raiders looked ugly yesterday but the end was kinda exciting. I still don't know about JaMarcus Russel though. I even started asking the question, who was the bigger bust, Alex Smith or Russel? Interesting to ponder.

-Didn't really enjoy the Dallas game too much. It was just too damn corporate for my tastes. New stadium, looking just like the old stadium and I just don't care. Nice to see the Giants pull out the win though.

-So very happy the Patriots won't go undefeated this year. We can put that to rest early. Jets came to play and looked good doing it.

Vikes can't come out sleeping in the first half like the have been, or Gore is going to take it to them. However, if the offense gets going right away, I don't see the Niners keeping up.

Anyone see the Samsung commercial with Favre last night? Gotta give him some credit for poking fun at his own indecision.

Well since Smith is holding a clipboard I think he has a slight edge, but Russel is tough to watch. He seems so uninterested...

The only reason Russell is not on the sidelines holding a clipboard is because the team is so adamant that he is the starter. Not like they've made any other silly decisions before.

Oh I'm calling this Sunday. Because if they don't win, it'll be at least three weeks before they have another serious look at a win. And if all else fails, there's a very winnable game against St. Louis in a month or so. ;)

Unfortunately, everyone is calling this one for the Lions, so you know the Redskins are going to pumped beyond belief. (can't be disrespected, ya know)

That Rams/Lions match-up should be a real barn burner.

It'll either be 2-0, or 66-61.

The Lions are not the awful, punching bag team they were last year. It's easy to pile on after they went 0-16 last year, but they're nowhere near as terrible as they were. I've actually watched their games, and the difference is night and day.

They've lost big so far this season, but they've played two very good teams so far. The Washington game should be interesting.

^Twice nothing is still nothing. I haven't paid attention to the Lions, but as long as they are playing hard and not resigned to losing, they will eventually win one.

Nervous Pats fan here. I'm sort of on the fence between:
1. It will take some time for Brady to get back to speed on offense, and Welker being out hurts them. The D will begin to gel better once all the new faces get some time playing together.
2. The train is out of control and heading for the edge of the cliff.

They barely beat a lousy Bills team and lost to a decent, but not great Jets team. Atlanta, one of the big boys, is coming to town today. If they can beat the Falcons that'd be great, but if they lose like they did and almost did twice, the reality is they're probably not contenders this year. I wish the Falcons were coming to town later in the year, when there would be more of a cold weather advantage over a dome team.

Lions win! It's been a long time coming, but they finally get the job done. Stafford should be okay as a QB, he made a couple of big throws today. Missed a couple too, but making the big ones when they counted was great to see. Keven Smith got hurt, so the running game may struggle next week. But I'm thrilled that they won! :D

Oh, and I definitely called it too. ;)

Dammit I miss Wes Welker. I'm glad they have his clone in Julian Edelman. Worst football name of all time, but a nice player.

It's a good thing the Pats have tight ends, otherwise they'd never score. Watching them makes my end tighten up too for that matter.

Baltimore is gonna kill them next week. If the Jets, who are a mediocre Ravens light can rough them up, I'd hate to see the real deal.

The way my wife channels her inner Gil Santos when they are on offense is far too cute. 'Koppen, direct snap to Brady, he's looking, looking, throooows...first down Rrr-andy Moss.'
