NFL Draft Thread

I'm honestly shocked he was drafted this high. He did go to a I-AA school. But he's 6'6, has a very strong arm, can move in the pocket to buy more time and make a big play, can throw 30 yards while being sacked, and is a very smart player. He honestly has two flaws. The best team he played against was either Appalachian State or Navy and he took the snap almost exclusively from the shotgun.

But his value has been rising since the end of the college season (where most people said probably top 5 QB). I've heard a lot of people recently say #2 QB. Brian Westbrook was from I-AA conference rival of Delaware, so I-AA players do occasionally make it big.

EDIT: Eagles got a 2nd, 4th, and 1st next year from the Carolina trade. I guess that's worth it, but it means I have to keep watching.

4. Oakland Raiders - Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
Nice player who along with Michael Bush, and Justin Fargas, will help make JaMarcus' first full season at the helm much more likely to be a success. But I don't know that trading down for multiple middle round picks wouldn't have been smarter. On the other hand, the Raiders have had a spotty record with draft picks so the more they have, the more likely they'll screw it up.

All in all, I'm not unhappy with the pick.

I hate the Eagles.
Wow, your loyalty is easily torn.

In other news, drafts are exceedingly boring. Connor hasn't been drafted yet to my mild surprise. I hope Justin King regrets declaring for the draft so early (let him get drafted in the 7th round! Muahahaha!)

Dolphins pick:

1) Jake Long/OT - OK, I can see this as a good move. We really needed a tackle.

2) Phillip Merling/DE - I don't know much about this guy. I hope he will be able to unseat Matt Roth.

2) Chad Henne/QB - I hate Chad Henne.

Overall, I don't know what to think of the Dolphins picks so far. Here's hoping you know what you are doing Bill.

EDIT:

I can't believe the Dolphins traded LoBo!!! He was one of the few bright spots on offense when he played.

Yeah, but if they don't see him as a big contributor, I'd just as soon they make the move to add more guys in the draft. I don't know why you're nervous...I think the Dolphins are having a fantastic draft so far. Added another linemen just a bit ago.

I like Flacco ok, but the Ravens WAY overdrafted him. They were very smart to trade down when Ryan wasn't there, but trading back up was a waste. Flacco (or the other QBs considered to be about the same talent and value) could have been had in the 2nd round and they would have still kept their picks. The Ravens picked ahead of where Henne and Brohm went. Loved the analysis that they were blown away by his arm strength in workouts - exactly as they were with Kyle Boller.

I think the rumor was that the Jets were going to trade up for him, but who knows (I certainly didn't think he would be drafted that high and I'm the guy who's been spamming about how awesome he is. I thought he would be the second or third QB picked, but I expected mid-2nd round and, worst case, he'd fall to the 3rd and someone would get a steal).

On Flacco, The Sun is citing his "coachablity" and his capacity to quickly pick up the offense as his major selling points. No idea if it will pan out, but it was an odd move and pretty out of character for Newsome and the scouting staff. I have to wonder if the new coaches had more to do with it than they did. At least they only used some if the picks they got from Jacksonville for trading down to move back up, and they still have a boatload of picks after.

Please don't bring up Boller... :(

Well, just as I feared the 49ers are kind of irrelevant in this draft. Oh well, maybe something good will happen next year. I don't even know who they picked. :(

we'll see, but seems decent enough for the Patriots. They needed help at LB and CB, and basically only drafted LB and CBs. Played some games with the trade system, too, so have a 2nd rounder next year out of the deal.

Interesting draft for the Giants - Kenny Phillips was a safe pick at the end of the first who also happens to fill a major need on the team for a play maker at free safety. USC corner Tyrell Thomas was a slightly more risky pick in round 2, as he's had one or two injury concerns but was also a productive player and should help out from day one on special teams. Second day picks were a mixed bag - Mario Manningham may turn out to be a steal at the end of round 3 but represents something of a risk character-wise whilst Andre Woodson is another risk/reward type pick who could turn out to be a more than serviceable backup with the right coaching. Neither of the linebackers look overly impressive though, and they may end up wishing they'd taken the Saints offer of a second round pick for Shockey.....
