NFL Draft Thread

didn't see one, so I decided to make one. Pretty quiet day for the Browns next week since they don't have very many draft picks. Could be a lot of movement too.

I'm really, really curious about what the Ravens are going to do in this one. McNair's retirement muddies the waters, but I still think they'll take a corner with their first pick, unless Ryan is still available at #8. Looking forward to this one anyway. :techman:

I think the Ravens are going to try and trade down. If McFadden is still at number #8 (which he should be unless the Raiders take him) I wouldn't be surprised if they try to work out a deal with someone like the Cowboys. With the Cowboys picks they might be able to get DRC at #22, and still get Flacco or Henne at #28.

I just think whoever takes Ryan (at least in the top 10) is looking at a bust. I don't think he's much better than Quinn and we all know what happened with him. Ryan doesn't have much mobility and he's had bouts were his mechanics were really poor. He's probably going to have to sit for at least a year and the current trend is: a quarterback drafted in the first 10 plays his rookie season.

So, if I was a Ravens fan I would be crossing my fingers the team doesn't take Ryan. But that's just me.

What happened to that fella Quinn? Oh, yeah. He just sat on the bench because some guy nobody figured to be the starter suddenly went nuts. Quinn didn't do anything wrong on the field last year - certainly not to be called a bust or anything. He fell in the draft, but hey - Ryan Leaf was a #2 once and Tom Brady went much later in the draft, so that obviously says squat.

Considering how awful Ravens QBs have been for years, how much worse could Ryan be? Who are the fantastic heirs apparent they have lined up to zing that ball all over the place like an All-Pro? It still might not be the best pick for them, but the Ravens sure as hell can't turn a blind eye at any QB that is valued such as most like Ryan.

This is the first year I'm interested besides what the Eagles are doing (I want to see when Joe Flacco will be drafted). Unfortunately, the draft is about as interesting as watching paint dry, so I'm still probably turning off after the Eagles pick.

I'm not sure if I should focus my time on this Draft this year. The Raiders are probably going to get McFadden, but as a Niner fan I'm really not into it. With the Patriots taking the pick (We still have 29 but still, that will be at least 6:00 PM PDT or something) the loss of a third round pick, and pretty much losing interest after the first day, the only thing I have hope for is if the Niners made a trade. It's a possibility, but it almost seems like it's not good to look to the draft for continuing to rebuild. I might change the mood as we get closer to the weekend though.

Hopefully there is somebody really good left by the Texans 18th pick. Or else I can seem them trading down to get an extra pick somewhere. As it stands right now, we don't pick in the 2nd or 6th rounds because of trades.

Rams have the #2 pick.

We've had such terrible luck going with defensive linemen early in the draft. We've wasted some serious coin there.

I imagine the Rams will take Jake Long, if they don't trade down. We need some protection for Bulger this year.

Or maybe they'll take a punter....

:techman:

I doubt Jake Long will be there at #2, based on what John Clayton was saying on "Mike & Mike" this morning. Miami is apparently getting closer to a deal with Long. I know... they were talking to a few guys - Jake Long, Glenn Dorsey, Vernon Gholston.. possibly Chris Long. If the Phins do take JLong, I'm betting the Rams will take Dorsey. They need some DL help don't they?

Yeah, like Damione Lewis? Jimmy Kennedy? Ryan Pickett? Anthony Hargrove?

Let's face it, other than Adam Carriker, the Rams' track record on drafting defensive linemen has been piss poor lately.

Last year, the main problem was the offense. Specifically, injuries to the offensive line, injuries to Steven Jackson, and terrible pass protection for Bulger.

In my mind, that's the #1 need this offseason.

If Jake Long goes #1, then we'll have to reconsider, as almost all the rest of the top tier players are defensive linemen. I still think the Rams should be looking to trade down a bit. I like Sedrick Ellis quite a bit, and the mock drafts still have him available 8-10.

Oh there's no question at all that their #1 concern has to be the OL. The question is after Jake Long, who would be the next best prospect, and is he worth the #2 overall pick? I suppose a trade is possible, but in the past several drafts I don't think anybody's traded up to get into the top 5-7. Could be wrong on that.

Beyond Dorsey... what about Sedrick Ellis? He looked pretty awesome all year long, and he wasn't injured was he?

And Miami has just announced that Jake Long is the #1 overall pick, they've come to terms on a contract. Time for the Rams to start reconsidering, i suppose...

Good idea!

:p

Have pity. The cold meds are conspiring against me today.

I really hope DeSean Jackson falls all the way to 29. It would be great if the Niners picked him up. We need a Wide Receiver, but he's also versitle in that he can run back punts as well and he's quick. Our last Punt returner isn't like that even though he was decent last year.

Who needs the NFL draft when players are now being signed before the Draft starts. I don't really understand how that is possible.

Blech. Vikings might not have a 1st rounder this year.

Considering how inconsistant the Vikes have been in the draft (remember Dimitrius Underwood?), that might be a good thing. They did well last year, so they're due for another screw-up.

So as a Packers fan, I'm hoping the Vikings' push to get Allen from K.C. falls through and they keep their 1st round pick.

Looks like the Pakcers might go for a QB. Aaron Rodgers can't be too happy about that after years of sitting on the bench waiting for Favre to retire. I'm sure he'd still be the starter, but it would be a blow to his confidence.

That was the old regime. The TOA has been very good the last two years. Both 2006 and 2007 were rated very high both at the time, and at the reevaluation at the end of their respective years.

And, if the Allen trade does go through, one has to see this year as a positive as well.

I believe only the top selector is allowed to sign pre-draft. I would think it is to avoid another John Elway situation.
