NFL Draft 2009: two brilliant representatives

After thinking about it over the weekend, I still like Crabtree because both McCloughen and Singletary said they were looking for quality and took the best guy avaliable in the draft. Besides, Bruce is at the end of his career, and Ziegler and Morgan are still a bit unproven. What I like about Crabtree is that he is a playmaker, and is fast. He can catch the short passes, but because of his speed, it will be focused more on the catch and run much like during the Rice era.

As for the other picks, I really wish the Niners hadn't made that trade. They didn't address the Line and pass rush when they could have in Round two. I think overall, I would give the Niners a C in thier draft. We'll see what happens, but I would really like to know what the Niners were thinking trading for a first rounder. I guess McCloughen said it had something to do with value and thier draft board, but it's almost feels like the Niners are getting ready for next season rather than this season. Not really something to tell your fans when hopes are high and we still love the Head Coach.

I'm quite happy with the Ravens' picks so far. They took Michael Oher in the first round, who should complete the evolution of the O-line and provide the pass protection Flacco needs to develop into an elite QB in the long-run. Not to mention that he sports a pretty impressive backstory as well. Krueger, the second round pick was good as well, another hybrid like Adalius Thomas to fill in the front 7 on D. Sure, they still need a receiver, but that's what the later rounds are for. I like that they stuck to their "draft the best player" phiosopy instead of reaching for a first round receiver who might very well bust. Thus far, I give this draft and offseason in gerenal a big :techman:.

Too early to tell about Oher. He's a beast, but playing in the NFL takes brains too and he'll have to work extra hard at learning the schemes.

A lot of the "he's dumb" talk was based on his GPA in high school. When he was homeless and had been to 8 schools in 9 years or something along those lines. Apparently his IQ went up 30 points and his GPA went up to something mildly acceptable once he was in a stable and supportive home. Apparently he also had to learn 3 different offensive schemes in college, and did so with great success, so I'd say the jury is out on how "dumb" the guy is.

Plus, he's got Willie Anderson on the right side as well, either as his backup or as the starter, and Willie was widely credited for being a great mentor and helping the young linemen learn the scheme last year. I have no doubt Oher will be more than ready to go when he has to play.

Yes, Yes Yes. Awesome pick from the Niners. Thank you Davis for being so senile too. :techman:

Crabtree? Sorry man, I can't back you up there with this one. So far, Niners have done horrible in the draft in my opinon. What's the use in having crabtree when we have Shaun hill who's not supposed to be throwing the long ball.

What's the use in having crabtree when Singletary keeps saying he wants to run the ball and be physical? We have decent enough recievers. Bruce, Zielger, morgan and brandon jones who we picked up in the off season.

What the 49ers need are offensive tackles and defense backs/line. We have none so far in the first 2 rounds. (49ers traded their 2nd round pick to Panthers).

Don't get me wrong, Crabtree is a great player. But he's just not the 49ers top priority in my opinon. I personally like picking up recievers in the later rounds, like 4-7.

I go to Texas Tech and I have to disagree.
Crabtree is an excellent blocker, a man who drives his guy out of bounds or into the ground.
Also he isn't a deep ball man anyway, he catches the tough pass on third down and breaks tackles, he helps move the chains and he is a powerful target in the red zone, and the niners were horrible in the red zone last season.
If he can turn one field goal into a touchdown, the niners can win 3 more games.
Plus you must be smoking something if you think the niners are OK with their current WR corps. Issac Bruce was the only guy catching more than 3 TDs alll season, and he only had 800 yards ... that is horrible.
Plus Crabtree was one of only elite guys left in the draft.

Finally, the 49ers had a decent (top 15) defense, but an awful offense ... you got to get Hill/Smith some help.

Agree, Crabtree is huge win for the Niner's. Now all he needs to do for an even bigger win is to make two phone calls. First to Jerry Rice to ask him to work out in the off season. The second to Vernon Davis to make him join them in those work outs.

There might be life in the passing game in SF yet...
