NFL Draft 2009: two brilliant representatives

Aaron Curry and Donald Brown.

If these guys represent the incoming NFL draft class, then the future is brighter because of them. I'm sick-and-tired of hearing about:
- Plaxico's apparent wish to become a practice target for the NRA
- Matt Jones' development of a pharmaceutical study program
- Travis Henry's one man attempt to increase votership in a record number of districts aroudn the country.

Curry, the possible #1 pick and consensus best LB this year, is using some of that premium space at the draft leading up to and during this weekend, to give that rare lifetime experience to a young cancer survivor. imagine what it's likwe for that young boy and his father, to go from life-in-the-balance to one of the biggest parties around. They've gone on sightseeing tours, eaten some outstanding food, and just plain hung out with Curry and others. What a difference something so simple will make in their lives. For decades from now, just imagine what the family Thanksgiving dinner talk will be like!

Brown, regarded by many as the top RB in the draft, is taking time to contact young men about participating in a mentor program he's developing. He's not content to just be nice to others, he's teaching them how to raise themselves up and stand on their own. Teaching them to be MEN! brown is decidedly not of the "I love me some me" generation.

There is no doubt that Curry and Brown will be multi-millionaires after this weekend. Their lives will change, and I hope for the better even though it's already great. More importantly, I hope they stay so firmly focused and grounded upon virtues we all would love to read about. We keep hearing about NFL players getting in trouble over and over again. You cna bankt on this: Curry and Brown are sure-fire first round picks because of their talent but also because of the c-word: character. The league needs men like this in more ways than you can count.

Do yourself a favor and read both linked articles up there. You'll feel better afterwards.

Yeah, I'm really glad that character is getting more weight in the decision making process in the NFL. Both of these guys are genuinely upstanding people and role models for others.

The Lions and Matthew Stafford have agreed to a six year contract worth $78 million with $41.7 million in guarantees. Wow. That equals to $35,616.43 a day for the next six years. I don't give a damn who he is, he is over paid. We need a rookie salary cap in this league.

A couple of sites are reporting the Rams are looking hard at Mark Sanchez with the second pick. Unnamed sources say it's a bluff to get someone to trade spots.

I actually wouldn't mind drafting Sanchez. Bulger is not the same QB anymore. I think Sanchez, with some seasoning, could be a good fit. He could learn for a while and not have the pressure of starting right away.

I'm just tired of losing all the time!

:scream:

Losing all the time? In the St. Louis era, there are two Super Bowl trips and one victory. A Lions fan can cry about losing all the time. A nuBrowns fan can cry about the team not being the same since they were an rebranded expansion team.

Maybe you can dump Bulger prematurely and he can lead some other team in your division to the Super Bowl. :p

The Rams haven't had a winning season in 5 years.

They're 5-27 over the last two seasons, for Jim's sake.

Sure Detroit has it worse, but that doesn't make losing any easier to accept.

Well, they took Jason Smith. I can't really argue with that. Hopefully with better protection and a healthy Steven Jackson, Bulger can get back on track.

Hopefully the Niners do well today. Most sites I've read are saying Oher and I would like that pick. Need some help on the O-Line

Love the trades. Looks like Sanchez is going to the Jets.

Darius Hayward Bay? I'm not sure if that's a good pick or not, but with a loaded draft so far yet, this just feels way too early. :wtf:

The Broncos draft a running back?

Geepers H. Crackers, who's running that team?

Yes, Yes Yes. Awesome pick from the Niners. Thank you Davis for being so senile too. :techman:

Crabtree? Sorry man, I can't back you up there with this one. So far, Niners have done horrible in the draft in my opinon. What's the use in having crabtree when we have Shaun hill who's not supposed to be throwing the long ball.

What's the use in having crabtree when Singletary keeps saying he wants to run the ball and be physical? We have decent enough recievers. Bruce, Zielger, morgan and brandon jones who we picked up in the off season.

What the 49ers need are offensive tackles and defense backs/line. We have none so far in the first 2 rounds. (49ers traded their 2nd round pick to Panthers).

Don't get me wrong, Crabtree is a great player. But he's just not the 49ers top priority in my opinon. I personally like picking up recievers in the later rounds, like 4-7.

With the 20th pick, the Lions took a tight end. I'm so glad we're ignoring our offense line because with a rookie QB they should be fine.

Another bit of proof that Donald Brown is a true class act and someone the NFL needs.... when Knowshon Moreno was tapped by Denver with the 12th pick, the cameras showed Brown jumping up and clapping for him. A great many players when being passed by were just staring ahead, and you could see the disappointment in their eyes, the sense of "but I'm better than this". But Brown didn't sit and stare in disbelief that he wasn't picked. He cheered Moreno. Apparently they are good friends off the field and go back aways. Brown ended up going 27th to the Colts.

I'm quite happy with the Ravens' picks so far. They took Michael Oher in the first round, who should complete the evolution of the O-line and provide the pass protection Flacco needs to develop into an elite QB in the long-run. Not to mention that he sports a pretty impressive backstory as well. Krueger, the second round pick was good as well, another hybrid like Adalius Thomas to fill in the front 7 on D. Sure, they still need a receiver, but that's what the later rounds are for. I like that they stuck to their "draft the best player" phiosopy instead of reaching for a first round receiver who might very well bust. Thus far, I give this draft and offseason in gerenal a big :techman:.

Too early to tell about Oher. He's a beast, but playing in the NFL takes brains too and he'll have to work extra hard at learning the schemes.

Personally, I think OLine was a no-brainer for the Ravens. I have no idea about Oher, but I can't fault them for the pick.

The Eagles pick seemed a bit odd for me, since our receivers seemed to be a fairly decent bright spot on the team last year. But you can't argue that Maclin could be a very good pick.

Maclin will, or at least is supposed to, give them a speed game to stretch the defense. That opens things up for their existing corps of receivers underneath, and it makes the running game a bit more effective.

The pick for the Eagles that I think was a great move, was getting LeSean McCoy in the second round. Westbrook still has some gas in him, but he's running out. McCoy is a home-grown product and adding him will allow Westbrook to last longer and McCoy to learn form one of the steadiest guys out there.

I'm a big fan of the McCoy pick up. I was actually expecting a running back in the first round.

I'm still waiting for someone from the Raiders to announce, "Just kidding, here's our real picks".

Strange draft for the Niner's as well, but Crabtree falling to them worked out very nice. They need another play maker on the offense.

Year in and year out the Raiders always seem to amaze me in the draft, and not in a good way. One really has to question Al Davis at times.
