NFL 2023: A different shade of green for Aaron Rodgers

Bears lose to the Saints behind 3 INT's and a fumble from Bagent and the usual shooting themselves in the ass with 8 penalties for 71 yards.

This week's TNF is another winner, Panthers @ Bears. They really need to dump TNF, it's a cesspool 90% of the time.

Damn...

Eventually an "airing of the grievances" occurred at a weekday meeting between coaches and players, per Glazer, where "players just unloaded on Josh McDaniels, from captain to captain to player to player." McDaniels apparently had linebackers coach Antonio Pierce "get up and speak on behalf of him" at the conclusion. But Pierce, a former Giants standout, reportedly referenced New York's old Super Bowl upsets of the Patriots as a motivational tool, which offended McDaniels, New England's longtime offensive coordinator.

Raiders coaching change: A 'vicious' team meeting 'broke' Josh McDaniels before his firing, per reports - CBSSports.com

The NFC west lost and the 49ers are back in first place. I call that a successful bye week. However, the Eagles, Jags, and Ravens scare me. 49ers better get it together or it will be a rollercoaster second half.

I'm still in shock! LOL That was one wild 2nd half of a football game.

That and the Vikings games were the games of the day. Josh Doubbs gets traded, has to come and as basically the emergency QB, and has a miracle win. Great story.

Raiders win 30-6 in the first game post-McDaniels. Granted, it's against the Giants.

Raiders had a 24-0 halftime lead. It's being reported that the last time the Raiders had that big of a lead at halftime was against Josh McDaniels and the Broncos.

Congrats, Texans have a heck of a QB on their hands.

It's the old rule; every dog has his day. The Texans have never made it past the divisional rounds in the playoffs. I don't think they're good enough to actually do that this year, they have way to many holes on the team. And next week the Bengals will expose some of that and bring the Texans back to reality. But the Texans with another good draft and offseason could be kicking a lot of serious butt next season. The Texans just don't have the defense yet to stop the really good teams.

Five years ago in Houston we were all thrilled with our brand new rookie D Watson and look how that turned out. I pray to the football gods that doesn't happen again. Although the football gods are notorious about not listening, and gods in general seem to not like me. So there's that. LOL

CJ Stroud has 470 yards, 5 TDs in a 39-37 win over Tampa.
Stroud looking like the first OSU QB that will actually make a mark in the NFL. Even on a good team, I'm not sure Fields will, but that's assuming he survives being a Chicago Bears practice dummy.

A couple of reasons I think fans should be more optimistic about Stroud than Watson. First, while Watson was clearly more of a weapon on the ground as a rookie than Stroud (Stroud can run a little, but not anything like rookie Watson) Stroud is a superior pocket passer right off the bat. Watson was better at improvising when plays broke down, but Stroud is better in structure and more accurate as a thrower. More sustainable and conducive to continued health and excellence, in theory. Most importantly, it's so impressive what Stroud is doing because, unlike Watson, he's not throwing to prime DeAndre Hopkins. In fact, he was supposed to have basically no receivers according to offseason perceptions. Now he's making legit weapons out of Nico Collins, Tank Dell etc.

He's the real deal.

I guess Joshua Dobbs was screwing up the tank plans this season so he had to go. Next QB up for the Cardinals, Clayton Tune, who threw for 58 yards and 2 INT against Cleveland.

In other QB news, Daniel Jones has a season-ending ACL injury and Tyrod Taylor's injury status is up in the air, so that makes Tommy DeVito the guy in New York. Trivia: the name of Joe Pesci's character in Goodfellas is Tommy DeVito.

Carson Wentz is back. Rams waive Brett Rypien and sign Wentz.

Will Levis named Titans starter for the rest of the season. The Ryan Tannehill era is over.

The Giants QB options are either DeVito or Matt Barkley, who hasn't thrown a pass since 2020.

Hmm.

I guess it can’t get any worse. Rypien was terrible in the Green Bay game.

Sure would be nice to see what our 4th rounder Stetson Bennett can do. That whole situation is very strange.

This is only speculation on my part, but him missing his entire rookie year with no explanation from anyone makes me think either substance abuse or mental health.

I never understood the need to name a starter for the rest of the season to the public.

I think it's because people who are skilled and intense enough to make it to the professional leagues are, generally speaking, incredibly neurotic and insecure people, and by naming him the starter for the rest of the year, Vrabel is trying to give his rookie just a little extra confidence boost.
