NFL 2018 Season

And Yes, if Belichick and Brady sold their souls for Football glory, they are 100% getting their money’s worth. Maybe even got a bargain, most would take the deal for a fraction of what they’ve cashed in on so far...

Belichick has been arguing for years that everybplay should be reviewable, or at least a ton more. Always told to shut up and stop whining. Guessing he has a few more converts in the New Orleans area this morning.

Blantant screwup, and it decided the game. Awful. Could kill the clock and kick a layup FG to win, instead they lost in OT. I’d be purple with rage if I was a Saints fan.
The Saints 100% got screwed on that non-call, but they never should have been passing in that situation. Horrible play calling.

Todd Gurley posted this gem today on his instagram account...LOL!

The only question for New Orleans fans now is, will they break the record for bitching about officiating in a playoff game set by the Sacramento Kings after their game 6 loss against Lakers in 2001? Such kvetching.

The Rams played a great game, coming from down 14. Saints had chances to win it after the non-call.

Yes, I agree with whoever said that the AFC should be ashamed of itself. The league has blatantly made parity a priority, yet the AFC hasn’t gotten the message

But, give the Pats credit, they never seem to have the most talent but AFC teams continue to let the Pats “execute” them to death. Belichick’s teams continue to execute for 60 minutes (or more) and invariably AFC opponents stop executing short of 60 minutes.

Hard to see the Pats losing two SB’s in a row, defeat is a strong motivator, but the Rams, like Philly last season, has the right combo of offensive diversity and tough defense. The question will be, will they maintain their poise enough to continue to execute with the Pats.

So, slightly brushing someone is now considered "Roughing the Passer."

But actively slamming into them, isn't.

It was a garbage call, no question. Plenty of them on both sides, though, pretty small one to complain about. Pats had some shitty PI calls going against them in a short period in the 4th as well, and could grab a bunch more. The Roughing penalty against the Pats was annoying, but on replay, was pretty clearly applying the "Brady Rule" about hitting around the legs, so fair enough even though he was sorta blocked in that direction. Andy Reid wants to bitch about the offsides call at the end, but that one's black and white, nice clear pic of it, and the player himself has owned it, so sour grapes.

The commentary about the Edelman muffed punt annoyed the hell out of me in real time. They showed one shot where it looked like the left hand touched but the other clearly didn't. They then show another angle where the right hand looked like it touched but left clearly didn't. They then decide that it's close, no way to know, etc. I mean, they are different angles of the same event, didn't happen independently! If you have angles that show neither hand touching (despite his best effort), it means he didn't touch it, right? No controversy there. But they stayed with the "gee, don't know" statements, and were shocked there was enough to overturn? Just showed on video that neither hand touched it, dumb dumbs...

If you want to whine about something, how about the Chiefs fan who was lighting Brady up with a laser pointer on big drives at the end of the game?

Can you IMAGINE what would have happened if that was at Gillette? Pats would be banned from the Superbowl, loss of entire draft class, Belichick out of the league, and Brady forced to be traded to the Jets, at a minimum. Wasn't the Pats though, so all cool, NFL crack investigators are going to 'look into it'. I mean, trying to tag a QB in the eyes with a laser pointer during key plays at the end of the game...? Not great.

The offsides call was... Well from what I've been seeing/hearing/reading/experienced is that most of the time that call is taken care of without throwing a flag. usually a friendly "hey you're offsides" by the ref. But, it is a valid penalty, it just seemed like the Refs were helping the Pats out as much as they could. The "roughing" call was the biggest when you look at the "contact" made on Brady and the more substantial contact made on Mahomes. It just too much feels like the system greasing it for Brady because he's Tom Brady.

There's plenty of blame to go on the Chiefs, we really, really, have a terrible Defense, but there officiating seemed somewhat biased here, as it did in the other game that night with plenty of questionable calls/non-calls.

As for the laser pointer thing, disgusting behavior by the audience member and hope they're, somehow, able to find the person. Not cool. They were talking about it on the talk-show on the radio on my way home from work tonight. (General talk, not sports talk, it was just a topic they were touching on. Largely what could/should be done and, as I understand it, laser-pointers are prohibited from the stadium. What gets me is how the guy doing it was able to considering there'd be a dozen people around him. (Assuming it was someone in the stands doing it.) Sounds like there was some other bad behavior from the stands too, a snowball getting tossed at someone (on the sidelines, maybe?) a kid got hit with plastic beer bottle, or something.

In related news, Chiefs dropped their DC today.

^^thats part of why the Pats usually play fast. If youre offsides, 12 on the field, etc they get the play off before you can correct it. If there’s time, you’ll sometimes get warned if there’s a ref right there, but he’s not going to stop play or run over to you to warn you...

No man, I just don't see it. This is the first time in a long time where we had a final 4 teams who were not only the best teams in the playoffs, but are also fairly entertaining. Of the 4, the Pats are probably the least entertaining and intriguing.

The Chiefs have the most exciting and young quarterback to enter the league in years. Mahomes is the future of the NFL (as much as I hate that :censored: thought). If the league had it's way, I'm pretty sure they'd want to see the Chiefs against the Rams or the Saints. The Pats only real draw is Brady and we pretty much know the whole story there.

If the league were trying to grease any wheels, I think it would have been the Chiefs'

Those losses weren't in a row.

They were the only Super Bowls the Pats played in that stretch. They lost back to back Super Bowls.

Regardless, last season’s result has nothing to do with this one. They could easily lose to the Rams. Everyone was sure that they wouldn’t lose AGAIN to the Giants. Look how that worked out.

You would think, and I think Mahomes is fantastic ans the "future" of the NFL, but at the same time Brady is still "Brady" and represents the fading "past" of the NFL. And when you have a game where Mahomes is slammed into and "roughed" up when trying to make a pass without any flags, but a flag is thrown when someone's hand slightly, barely, brushes Brady's helmet and a "roughing the passer" penalty is called, well.... It's kind of hard to not think something is up.

(Why do you hate the thought of Mahomes being the "future of the NFL?)

Funnily, during that radio-show discussion about the laser pointer, the radio hosts were reading texts being sent in, said one of them, "Are we sure the laser wasn't being aimed in the eyes of the refs?"

From a psychological standpoint, losing a Super Bowl and having to deal with the ramifications of that loss for a year is a powerful motivator. I would say that it is especially difficult for a prideful team like the Pats. Keep in mind that I didn't say they wouldn't lose, just that it is difficult for me to see them losing two SB's in a row. And if it has happened before, that may make it even less likely to happen again, at least with this current group of Pats.

Last year there was all the controversy surrounding Malcolm Butler, and the relationship between Brady and Belichick, between Belichick and the owner. When teams get to this level, sometimes the only thing separating them is who wants it more, and it looks to me like the Pats may have reason to want it more.

The Pats are going to do their execution thing regardless, but on top of that, it appears to me that they have the psychological edge. However, the Rams have a much better defense than the Chiefs' and just as good an offense. So, if they can do what the Eagles did last year, out execute the Pats (another area in which I'm sure Pats' pride was hurt last year), and that is quite possible, the Rams can win.

Believe me, I have no desire whatsoever to see Trump's team win another SB, but reality is what it is.

Because I'm a Raiders fan. :D
