NFL 2018 Season

t1YdA09.jpg

The 49ers lost Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator so they could make Jim Tomsula their head coach. True story.

I always thought Tomsula looked like a butcher from New Jersey.

As for my Beloved Rams...holy crap what has happened? How did Jared Goff go from legitimate MVP Contender to this in 3 weeks? Seriously, he's playing like he's got Mono or something. Slow, flat...

At this rate we're cruising for a first game loss in the playoffs, and an entire off-season of what the fuck?

:scream:

Ouch...

Over the last three weeks, Goff is at the very bottom: He’s dead last among all starting quarterbacks in passer rating over the last three weeks of the season. Goff’s passer rating over the last three weeks is 51.3. The only quarterback in the NFL who has started even one game and had a worse passer rating in that time is Mark Sanchez, who has been benched.

Is it Goff? Or have people figured out the Rams offense?

Ugh, Tom Brady. Don't know if there's an injury adding to the problem, but he's lost a step. Still good, and gives them a chance, but things that would have been no problem are now in doubt a bit. Much more worried about getting hit, bailing out of things. Had Edelman at the end of the game, could have hit him at the 5 and had enough time to spike it and go again, but sailed one over him into a pile of people at the end. Not really sure where any of those last plays were supposed to go, they looked bad.

Still going to the playoffs, probably the 3 seed, but it's going to be a challenge this year to make real noise...

Isn't he 41 or something like that? I saw some highlights on the local news this morning and he was tossing up some truly horrendous passes. At some point, time beats you ... it beats everyone.

Yep. Something going on with his knee, he's been favoring it for a few weeks and bailing out a lot more on throws, not planting as much, etc. Fortunately, QBs in the NFL are such a shitshow that 60% Brady is probably still top 5-10 in the league, but he can't keep this up if it's age and not an injury. Want him to keep winning forever, but also don't want to see that last year of him sucking and throwing underhand like Manning went through.

Either way, sadly time for the Pats to spend some draft capital on a QB. Best case he gets to watch Brady for a year or two, but not sure how much more he's got left to give. Not to say they can't bounce back and win it all, but it's getting a little harder every game.

In order to keep the number 2 seed in the playoffs, I would imagine the Texans will have to beat the Eagles this weekend. After that, it's the Jags in the finale. The Texans can beat the Jags (unless the Jags come up with an actual real NFL QB real quick), but I don't know about the Eagles. The Texans aren't as good as their record would indicate.

I don't think the Patriots are as good as they used to be, but they're still in the top two or three teams in the AFC. The Chargers appear to be the best in the AFC right now, with the Chiefs and Patriots next, then you have the Steelers, Texans and Colts, and then everyone else. IMO of course. LOL

Kind of ironic for Patriots fans now to be forced to root for the Eagles.

Them beating Houston is our only hope to get a first round bye.

Patriots clearly aren't as good this year as previous couple years. I'd never completely count them out till they're out. But having that bye would do a whole lot for their odds.

Edit: And that seals it. Beat the Jets, get the bye. Thanks Philly!

Too bad, Josh Gordon was a real talent who couldn't keep his head on straight.

He's not the only one. Montae Nicholson from the Redskins has been arrested.
WASHINGTON — Washington Redskins safety Montae Nicholson was arrested early Tuesday morning after an incident in Loudoun County.

The arrest — on charges of assault and battery and being drunk in public — followed an altercation in Ashburn, Virginia, involving the second-year pro, his girlfriend and another couple. Authorities said that unidentified couple were victims in the incident.

One of the victims told officers that the altercation occurred after the suspects pulled up in a vehicle and honked the horn at them around 2 a.m. at the One Loudoun shopping center. That resulted in a quarrel, then to the victims being physically assaulted by Nicholson and his girlfriend, identified as Sydney A. Maggiore, 24, of Vienna, Virginia.

Deputies told NBC Washington that Nicholson and Maggiore assaulted the man, and that Maggiore allegedly hit the woman with a bottle.
They even have pictures of this idiot doing is thing. I really don't understand these meltdowns. Are they not paid enough? They have bright futures ahead of them with promising athletic careers and they piss it all away on stupid shit like this. I just don't get it. But to paraphrase from Big Trouble in Little China, "we were not put upon this earth to 'get it' ".

Even though the Skins are still technically "in the hunt" (requiring 3 other teams to lose to stay in contention) I've completely checked out on them for the season. Tons of injuries and 3rd/4th stringers filling starting spots who barely know a quarter of the basic playbook doesn't make for a reasonable playoff contender.

Bears played a sloppy 1st half against the 49ers, but managed a 14-9 win.

Offense needs to practice holding onto the damn ball.

Side note, Parkey missed another FG, whereas Gould made 3.

Thanks to the Steelers losing, Texans have secured a playoff spot. There are playoff scenarios where the Texans could end up with the number 1,2,3, or 6th seed. Which really doesn't matter because the Texans will get their asses whipped in the playoffs. Injuries are piling up on the Texans, notably wide receiver and RB positions which doesn't help when you already have a piss pour o-line. The Texans allow more sacks than any team in the league this year.

But hey, even if we aren't a good team, at least I'm fortunate enough to be able to bitch about a playoff team. LOL

Falcons kicker Matt Bosher lays a great hit on Panthers return man Kenjon Barner.

The next day, he's the recipient of a "random" drug test. Story.

Most professional athletes don't have the education or wherewithal to balance a checkbook or cook anything more complicated than boxed macaroni and cheese. That's not on them, it's an indictment of the education system, which treats these young people as so very special because they're good at a particular sport (translation: they make a shit-ton of money for the schools). This is doubly so in the case of football, where a substantial amount of the player population comes from deeply impoverished areas, and being good enough at football to get a free-ride scholarship and a sinecure, sham degree is their only way out of that situation. A lot of these guys would flunk a home ec class.

The NCAA likes to pat itself on the back for giving its "student-athletes" (read: unpaid employees who make a shit-ton of money for the school) the "opportunity to graduate," but it does everything possible to ignore the elephant in the room that those degrees are largely worthless, and if those players wash out ... they're fucked.

So the NFL upped the intrigue for week 17.

The Bears were supposed to play at 10:00AM PST, which would have given the Rams knowledge of whether they needed to win or not before their 1:25PM PST kick-off.

The NFL moved the Bears game to the afternoon, so they'll play simultaneously.

By the looks of it, the 49ers will be lucky to field a complete team. If the Rams somehow lose, they deserve whatever they get.

Looks like Teddy is going to start for the Saints today. I say, if he does well and Cousins shits the bed again, Imma not going to be happy.

I don't expect that to happen, but I've become rather disillusioned with Cousins. He very well may be the best thrower in the league, but I've seriously started to question his competitive edge - something 'Coolwater' has demonstrated in spades.

And those forty ems could have pay for a lot of o-line.
