NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? What?

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

That doesn't seem to be true, because you seemed to agree with basis of the comment (don't complain about a rule that just benefited you a couple years ago), but still got several long-winded diatribes from you to get there. If it just boils down to agreeing or disagreeing, you could have saved a lot of electronic paper and just said so ;)

I guess I separate 'new' fan from 'bandwagon' fan to some degree. It's ok to be NEW. It's not anyone's fault that they weren't born in 1842 and didn't help you invent football, so they'll always be new to you. You were born when you were born, or moved somewhere new, or discovered a sport at a certain time, all valid things. The guy that's a Yankees/Cowboys/Lakers/Canadiens fan? He's just a front-running bandwagon fan, can't help him. He's probably also an asshole :p You should at least try and stick to a geographic area for teams, and not just be a fan of whoever is winning at the time.

Where I make the distinction between new fan and bandwagon fan is what you do from there. Are you learning more about the franchise and its history, or just riding the bus while they're good? Do you know that they existed prior to when you got into them, and are you aware of anything that happened then? Or is it more about being part of the group feeling, waving at other people with #12 jerseys, being seen with your bedazzled pink Red Sox hat, checking in on Facebook and then getting trashed on $9 beers? If they suck for a couple years, are you still following them, or did you pick something new and trendy? One of those groups gets more of my respect than the other, whether you judge that right or wrong.

When you boil it all down, still at the same point: I made the 'new fan' criticism because that's how the comment was interpreted by me. They complained about a crappy team getting into the playoffs, plus getting a home game, because they won a division. 5 years ago, right before the Seahawks bandwagon took off, the Seahawks won a crappy division at 7-9 and made the playoffs, had a home game. Guess I took a leap and assumed that they hadn't been following their team that long or didn't know much about it if they could make that comment and not follow it through to realize they had JUST be beneficiaries of the thing being complained about.

Wasn't about some fans' opinions being more or less valid than others. Not only is that your strawman, it's actually an argument you've used against ME several times. Your opinion being more valid because you've been alive longer than I have. My only piece here is that if you want to discuss, you should have some awareness about your own team. Or if you only follow casually, that's ok too, but please don't go all superfan when they start to do well if you didn't care earlier

Okay, so we are about to watch the Redskins/Eagles game. Why are they showing "Thursday Night Football" slogans on signs, graphics or on the ticker on the bottom of the screen?? Some kind of licensing agreement?

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Nice win by the Raiders on Xmas Eve. We are now only one win away from my hoped for goal of a .500 season. If we can just find a way to upset Kansas City...but it will be tough in KC.

But regardless of whether we finish at 8-8 or 7-9, the Raiders have made great strides this season in returning to relevancy. Now Reggie can turn his attention fully to the defense. That attention is even more greatly needed with Charles Woodson's retirement.

What a year. Two of the all time greatest, and two of my all time favorite players, playing for my two favorite teams, announcing their retirements in the same year; Kobe Bryant and Charles Woodson. Their respective sports will never quite be the same without them.

Woot! Skins going to playoffs clinching NFC East!

Now all we need to do is shit in Dallas' house next week the same way they did in our house a few weeks back. Not that it matters now, but I would love a crush in the rematch.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

given the state of things for the redskins and cowboys, don't see why that shouldn't be doable. Redskins have managed to climb back into the picture this year, ironic that it took benching the guy they spent so many picks to get, but apparently, that's what the team needed...

That and for Romo to be out all season, and Dez to be hurt for most of it, but can only play the hand you're dealt, so gotta give them props for getting there. Sometimes it's a brutal division, and sometimes just brutal to watch. Same as with any division I suppose. AFC East was supposed to be big this year, but Bills and Dolphins did their usual thing, so oddly it's the Jets that came out strong.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Considering how anemic the Patriots' offense was for most of the game, and how broken-down the defense is, I'm not entirely sure electing to kick off in overtime was the best call...

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

It didn't really sound like Slater meant to say they wanted to kick, but once you say it you can't take it back. Oh well.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

I went back and watched the replay; he clearly says, "We want to kick off." The confusion appeared to stem from Slater believing that the Patriots got to choose which direction they were kicking.

Arizona is having their way with Green Bay, rough and dry. Always good to see the Packers getting blown out.

Us Bears fans have so little to do this time of year.

Us Bears fans have so little to do this time of year.

Used to be that we could listen to Doug Buffone and Ed O'Bradovich yell at chowderhead moron Chicago fans, but ... Doug ... :(

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

How about those Rams!!!

Nice win, and a season sweep of Seattle.

Now if we could only win outside the division...

:scream:

I'm looking forward to next weekend, even though it will be meaningless. I still want a birthday victory.

:techman:

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

In order for the Colts to make the playoffs, the following must happen:

Tonight:
Broncos def Bengals

Next week:
Jaguars def Texans
Colts def Titans
Ravens def Bengals
Bills def Jets
Falcons def Saints
Broncos def Chargers
Dolphins def Patriots
Steelers def Browns
Raiders def Chiefs

If someone bet on all of that and it actually happened, they'd probably make a shit-ton of money.

Almost all of that could conceivably happen. Well, except the Dolphins winning. Sorry Colts fans, we tried, we really tried to get you into the playoffs. But the Pats started some 189th round draft pick they signed from the University of Akron's practice squad at scatback and we just couldn't handle him and his zippiness.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

The Chargers fined Eric Weddle $10,000 for staying on the field at halftime to watch his daughter perform in the halftime show.

The team also told him there was no room on the plane for him to go to next week's game against Denver.

Keep it classy, San Diego.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Well, my Steelers did it again...

...played to the level of the competition...

...and lost to a team they should have easily beat.

Thank you.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Yeah. Have to say I'm surprised. I figured he'd get one more season. So many changes happened last season that I thought he'd need a season to gel. As bas as the team was, it felt like firing him would make them worse next season.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Sooo.... are we going to talk about Peyton Manning?
