NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? What?

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Disappointed that Baltimore got a win, but I guess one won't hurt. Slows the Steelers down slightly, although I suspect long term exposure to Mike Vick ought to do that on its own.

Vick didn't do all that bad under the circumstances. Antonio Brown dropped a nice TD pass in the 1st half. .... I can't remember the last time that happened...

It's becoming apparent that loosing our frakin kicker is hurting us more than Ben and Pouncy at this point...

... Tomlin doesn't go for it on 4 & 1 with Bell....

This was probably the easiest game of the Ben-less games...

Not looking good.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Tomlin is... not good. There are so many coaches that are TERRIBLE that he still looks decent in a lineup, but not great when you single him out. Then add in stuff like the 'accidental' tripping, the whining over the headset thing (and bringing it back up, then refusing follow-up questions about it), can't say I have much respect for him at this point.

There's plenty that are MUCH worse, but he's definitely nothing special.

Things have been dumbed down and played safe in the NFL to the point where there are like 4-5 good coaches, MAYBE, and a pack of idiots and copy-cats behind them that don't quite get it. Not many true HEAD coaches anymore, either. Seems the latest trend is towards just picking a defensive coordinator and promoting them, but once promoted, they never really take over the other 2 phases of the game, and sorta stick to the part they know, which obviously leads to failure. Listen to Rex Ryan talk about his offense for a minute or two, it's hilarious. Great DC, ignorant blowhard and out of his element when he has to look at the whole picture.

The Bears squeak by the Raiders. I guess we know where the Bears are talent-wise now.

Skins beat the Eagles...barely. Great first half, horrible second half with a nail biter 2-minute drill that wins the game in the last few seconds. A win is a win, but I don't think next week against the 4-0 Falcons will be the portent of good things. Cautious hopefulness will be with me for the next several weeks.

That was a great drive at the end.

Not really. The Raiders have a really talented core on offense at the skill positions but they are still young and haven't quite learned how to close out road games yet -- even when they are the better team. Their lack of experience cost them as they were playing a desperate Bears team who because of the recent firings, felt like they were playing for their football lives.

Going forward, as they mature, the Raiders will one day soon be much better prepared to close out games like these.

4-12 at best. Now they're shopping Forte.

He is by far, their most shoppable player.

It would suck to see him go, but he'll be 30 next year, so in running back years he's entering his twilight. I hope he goes somewhere good and gets a ring as he's been one of my favorite players over the years. Dude has been a gamer.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Did they sneak some replacement refs into Seattle last night?

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

Yep, garbage call.

And making it not reviewable sucks. Strongly in favor of the rule change proposed that makes everything reviewable, and just use them where you feel you got screwed by the refs. Why are some of their screw-ups fixable, and others you just have to accept? Can't advance the ball on the ground, penalty. Ball back to Detroit on the 6" line.

Agree. That would go a long way in strengthening the "integrity" of the game, which the league claims is important.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

They're somewhat wishy-washy on that point.

But seems a hard point to defend against. Coaches get same number of challenges, but can use them to review whatever they want. Worst case is what? Refs get more calls right that they might have screwed up? They get another couple seconds to chat with NY office before having to commit to a bad call? What's the downside?

Biggest point against it so far is that Belichick is the one that proposed it to the rules committee. So they naturally want to block him out of spite, and are also nervous that maybe he's built in a loophole he will use to embarrass the hapless league at some point.

Re: NFL 2015-2016 Season - Maybe extra points actually ... matter? Wha

^ The league apparently thrives on embarrassment. It IS publicity, after all.
