KCPD confirms that Javon Belcher murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself at the team practice facility -- in front of coaches and teammates.
Cancel that game, NFL. C'mon.
I played with the simulator a bit, and I noticed something that none of the commentators seem to be pointing out. Everyone has New England locked into the #2 seed, but if Houston beats them they potentially drop to #3 or even #4 based on how Denver and Baltimore play out. That's based on a single loss, btw.^This is the one year where the playoff simulator is mostly irrelevant.
The AFC is basically set other than the final wild card, which I assume will be Pittsburgh if Roethlisberger comes back anytime soon. (New England, Baltimore, Houston, and Denver are pretty much sure fire bets.)

What a terrible thing...

Unreal. Yes that game should be cancelled.
As for the game, the decision to move forward was actually the Chiefs' call. According to Yahoo, Crennel and the team captains discussed it and decided to go ahead with the game.
Who's desperate for quarterbacks of Alex Smith's caliber this year (especially teams that weren't interested in Alex Smith LAST year)?
Just looking at the teams that have poor quarterback play: Arizona didn't want Smith last year. Miami is set with Tannehill. The Jets are stupidly set with Sanchez/Tebow (all while Greg McElroy sits 3rd string and wasn't even on the active roster on Thanksgiving... stupid Jets). Cassel as you say is set.
I just don't see another team wanting Alex Smith for a starting role.

Then that should settle any question about whether to play the game. The team votes to carry on. Done. Play ball. For these guys, the best thing therapeutically my well be to play the game.
