Next two films may be 2-part storyline

I think a story arc connecting movie 2 and 3 is a good idea. As long as they keep each movie somewhat contained storywise. Hopefully this will speed up the release between XII and XIII.

I also agree with the "NO Khan" contingent.

I would rather they be 'linked' a la Star Trek III and IV rather than done like the matrix sequels where its one story split into two parts.

I like the idea of a two-parter if it means they'll take their time on continuing to develop the characters and the overall story.

Otherwise, obviously, no.

so, yeah, i guess this could kinda go either way, couldn't it? i guess we should just hope they are very careful, whether they end up doing a two-parter or not.

We will see Khan at some point over the two movies, its inevitable.
Ummm, doesn't this timeline mean that finding Khan would lead to an all-out battle? This 'Verse seems more quick on the trigger than the Prime one.
NO CETI-ALPHA 5 FOR YOU!!!:shifty:

did they seriously go to all this trouble to reboot it all, just to rehash something that was already done well 25 years ago? how does that make any sense?

Well if the do Khan completely different, why not?

The have a change to right all the wrongs from the first time.

wrongs? i thought that was pretty much unanimously held to be the best of all the older movies. i really REALLY hope they come up with something new. well, that, and personally i just don't find kahn that fascinating a character. he does not need 3 airings.

I have been telling you all this since..well..forever. Another chance for me to offer my feet to be kissed. Here is how it will shake out. The next movie will introduce Khan..the movie after that...roll the drums...you know it...you can feel it...as I have been saying for YEARS now...THE WRATH OF KHAN!!!

Its tough to be omnipotent in groups..

Rob
Omnipotent? Pfft. More like a broken record, at this point -- you've made that same post before, or close enough as makes no difference. New fic to pimp, I wouldn't be surprised, but you could at least be a little more original about it. (And keep your feet out of it, if you please. Ick.)

And Khan? I really, really hope they don't go that route. I see it as being neither necessary nor desirable to trot Khan out one more time. Khan has been done... and then done again -- he's finished, already.

We're in a new universe -- tell us some new stories with some new guest characters, not the same old ones we've already heard and seen before.

Well, of course most of the summer movie audience for Trek that they've just created with this film has only the most general idea of who Khan is and what that story was about - twenty-seven years ago. So it's all new to them. :)

Why do I get the feeling that Abrams, Orci, and Kurtzman are saying their considering doing Khan just to screw with the fanbase a little.

That would be really different from all of their previous behavior.

They have, at all times, soft-pedaled anything at all about their version of Star Trek that they thought might rattle or upset the fan base - so much so that some folks who'd read all of their public statements through rose-colored glasses considered them to have been deliberately misleading when the final details of the last movie came out.

Abrams discussing his own biases in public forums - that he preferred Star Wars as a kid, that he found Trek offputting - are a separate matter than talking about what would be in the Trek movie. The producers and writers never have shown any interest in riling fans up.

While fans have been needling the producers with every cavil and quibble imaginable, the producers have treated fans with kid gloves.

I think the idea of two linked movies is a smart strategy. It gives the current team a graceful exit after the third, granted that the next two films do well. It also plays to that sense of closure that accompanies trilogies.

Im kind of on the fence when it comes to wanting or not wanting Khan in the next movie. I think alot of it (for me anyway) comes from not only wanting something new in this new alternate reality we got, but also from a fear of tampering with or screwing with a classic Trek villain.

But if they could pull Khan off and do a good job at it, then I'd be more inclined to lean towards that side of the fence. Its all speculation at this point anyhow until we hear more information

I like the idea of doing "Where No Man's Gone Before". I always felt this episode could easily be made into a full length movie. They could easily establish Gary as one of Kirk and Spock's classmates through flashback moments, when Gary is re-assigned to the Enterprise. Use the 1stmovie to build up the friendship with Kirk, and strengthen their friendship through outmovie 2, until Kirk is forced to kill him in the climax of the 2nd flim.
