Next Trek movie - Stardate 2263.4 or something?

Cadet49

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
The one thing that truly pulls me as an viewer out of ST XI is the end, where Kirk makes the rank jump from newly graduated cadet to captain with almost no command experience. I know, however, that some people love the idea, and think he deserved it for saving Earth.

Maybe as a compromise, the writers of STXII could set the plot around Stardate 2263.4 or something, rather than an immediate sequel to ST XI in something like Stardate 2260.1 or something. By putting some year gaps in between, those of us that have a hard time suspending our disbelief about that promotion can at least say, "Well ... maybe there is a five-year gap between the Narada destruction climax and Kirk's promotion ceremony! ...and the reason they were back in cadet uniforms was that they were also meeting back at the academy to mark the five-year anniversary of the loss of so many classmates in the Nareda attack on Vulcan, back in '58!";)

They probably wouldn't do that ... so I'll just have to accept nuKirk is a super genius who will be able to handle complex diplomatic situations, first contact missions, etc., despite his cadet-only experience, and in command of the "Federation's new flagship", as Pike calls it!

Oops - I probably should have put a spoilers warning on that post, in case someone hasn't seen Trek XI, but I tried to edit it, and the spoiler icon would not come up, and I didn't know how to change the thread title - sorry, I didn't mean to spoil any surprise!

Nah, I think you're cool. It's more than a year after the release of Trek XI and well outside the statute of limitations; realistically, we gave up trying to contain spoilers after about the first two months; anyone expecting to remain unspoiled on that movie shouldn't even be entering this forum. Nothing you posted is much of a secret, at this point.

As far as the rest of your post and the thread title go, nearly all of it is speculation or hypothesizing, right? The only ones who know anything about the next movie right now are the people who are writing it, and based on their track record for the last one, they're going to play it very close to the vest and we'll learn almost nothing from them until we get a lot closer to the June 2012 release date. There'll be lots and lots of speculation between now and then.

Sanji Himura is correct about the way to type spoiler tags manually. You can also do:

[ spoiler="your spoiler label here"]actual spoiler information here[ /spoiler]

which, omitting the spaces, will end up looking like this:

actual spoiler information here

Thanks for the help with the spoiler how tos! Yeah, it's all just hypothesizing on my part, not some info about the next film. I was just saying that I would like the film to jump forward in time by several years so that the fan base who had trouble believing a cadet would be promoted so quickly could at least come up with an alternate explanation, so they could maybe enjoy the film more. Just wishful thinking from a guy who loved the movie, overall, but wishes he could have been one of the editors to work out a few (in my opinion only) "kinks" in the plot! ;)
