next Star Trek series 1701-?

Star Trek has changed over time, reflecting cinema of the day. 21st century movies are all about the action, the special effects, and the invulnerability of the hero-like characters. In modern movies, we are used to seeing characters who can dodge hundreds of bullets without getting hit or who can do almost superhuman feats without becoming injured; but that isn't really what makes Star Trek Star Trek. Star Trek has action in it, but it also has lots of philosophy. When you are watching Star Trek, you don't get the impression that the characters are oddly invulnerable to harm. In fact, Star Trek has delt fairly heavily with the philosophical aspect of death, and its role in human evolution and society.

I think that the struggle of a future Star Trek show will be for the writers to stay true to the philosophical aspect of Star Trek while also satisfying the crowd of viewers who want to see guns blazing, explosions, and special effects.

I personally would like to see more of the Enterprise E. We haven't seen enough of the E to warrant moving on to another letter in the alphabet. Picard could move on to a higher position within the Federation, and the new show could follow the crew which replaced the old Enterprise E cast. Of course, I doubt that will happen, because with the whole reboot, it seems probable that the "nu" timeline will be followed as opposed to the classic universe.

The way it works out when you create a new show even farther in the future is it's all just basically an excuse (and I think a good one) to redesign the ship, uniforms and equipment.

When it comes down to it, no matter what year it is or which ship it is, each week it'll be beaten to within an inch of its hull plating, it'll barely be able to reach a danger zone in time at its top warp, and the transporters won't be able to get a lock for some reason.

Heck, by looking at it I'd think Enterprise was set after Star Trek VI and before TNG.

I don't know if this really belongs here, but why not? I was just flipping through the book Star Trek Sketchbook, by Herbert F. Solow and Yvonne Fern Solow, which deals with TOS production designs. On page 68, on a drawing from around 1965 of the Enterprise, it ID's the number as 1701, as we know. It adds a note about the first "modification" of the ship should be numbered 1701A. So I guess that lettering system really wasn't out of left field when they did it in TVH.

I say they go with a greek letter like Omega, or something.

That is a good idea 1701-_ Greek alphabet letter could be used for an extremely advanced special ops future U.S.S. Enterprise 'the most advanced ship in the fleet'. If in the distant future 30th century they have already done 1701-Z then go to the Greek letter.;)

It does not have to be an Enterprise story.

I'd like to see a TOS-era story or a little later on another Constitution class ship.

I'd like to see another ENT era series. Maybe something set on the class of ship immediately after the NX class. Set sometime shortly after the founding of the Federation.

What I'd like to see isn't likely. Either an animated Pike era series picking up after "The Cage" (from the TOS continuity and NOT the JJverse) aboard 1701 or a new Enterprise and crew set in the 26th century or further (and don't worry about F, G, H J or whatever). NCC-710001 or something to that effect.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of the NCC-1701 registry for Federation starships named Enterprise continuing for several more centuries. In the real world, it's simply another way of connecting with TOS--but in the Trek universe, it could be looked at as a Starfleet tradition that began with Kirk's Enterprise. By the 24th-Century, it may not so much be a way of honoring just that original ship, but now every Enterprise since that has carried that same registry. It's a legacy, IMO, a way of honoring a lineage of ships with the same name that have each played a crucial role in Federation history at some point.

That being said, I'm really just addressing the prime universe (regardless if it continues onscreen or not), and even then I'm skeptical that there will ever be an Enterprise NCC-1701-Z, because the 1701 registry may be retired long before it reaches that point...

Why not have a show based on whats happening in the star trek online game timeline. Romulus being blown up. Federation not waiting 25 years to give people ship commands. Klingon vs federation-something as a fan we have never really seen.
I think that they should base each show from a different ship-they can have episodes that show the same ship like twice or 3 times. I want a series that shows you the timeline and shows the federation at war. For fans that like space battles that would be the ultimate series. Thats just my opinion.

Lord no. That video game needs to stay seriously separate from the Star Trek canon.

Here's what I think will happen, and I'm thinking like a producer.

1. First, someone needs to be convinced that a new Star Trek television show is even a worthwhile moneymaking endeavor.

2. Once that's done, you have to figure out what will attract the most viewers, fan and non-fan alike. Janeway? Sisko? Who are they? Kirk and Spock? Oh yeah, everybody knows who they are, so let's make a TV show about them.

3. Oops, they're already making movies with those characters! And what's more, now there's this whole new universe where we now don't have to slavishly abide by 45 years-worth of what came before it. So what do we do?

4. Hey, fellow producers and studio heads, remember back in 1986, when Shatner and Nimoy were making those highly successful movies, and someone had the bright idea to capitalize on their success by making a new Trek series, but set a century in the future so they could use new actors and a new ship? Well, why don't we just do it again, but now it's in this new universe. We could call it "Star Trek: The Next Generation!" We could make a new ship, the Enterprise...D! They're doing it for "Hawaii-5-0," so why can't we do it too? (Yes, I know that nobody gives a shit about Hawaii-5-0, and the new show will probably get canceled before its first season is even over, but this is Star Trek! Everybody cares about Star Trek :-))

5. Oh, you mean there was already a show called "Star Trek: The Next Generation?" But shit, that was in 1986, man! That new movie rebooted a show from the '60s! Why don't we just reboot TNG for the 21st century? We don't even need the same characters from that old show. Who were they again, anyway? Some bald French guy with a British accent? Some robot? Some annoying pre-teen boy who always saved the ship? Screw that, it's a new universe! Why don't we just have the descendants of Kirk and Spock et. al as the crew? Yeah, Kirk's grandson could be the captain of the TV series ship, while Chris Pine is the captain in the movies? Yeah, that would totally work!

6. (Producers and studio execs pat each other on the backs for their ingenuity).

I don't want a next show to be about the Enterprise. Star Trek has developed into way more than just that.

I thought having a series that shows 3 or 4 vignettes per episode of different things:
Maybe colonists settling a planet far on the Fed's frontier; a small patrol ship, alone and with being the only "law" for light years around; deep-cover spies, and their exploits;
a research outpost and all the stuff that can come with fooling around with stuff you shouldn't be messing with, etc etc.

The "old" universe is gone, and reboot is the future, live with it. if you can't or thnik I'm wrong you are really out of it.

There's no way in hell that a future Star Trek show isn't going to be based around a ship other than an Enterprise. Just like "Kirk" and "Spock," the name recognition is too great to ignore.

Why is the old universe dead? paramount only have themselves to blame if it is "dead", since they messed up the production of Voyager and had a BS concept/production in Enterprise.

My take would be a 25th century series. And the enemy would be different too, such as humans being the enemy from the far side of the Alpha Quadrant. I think it would be cool to have some Romans, who were taken from Earth 2000 years ago, but need the Federation's help in conquering their enemy. there should also be new technology, and the Romulans shouldn't be enemies again.
