next Star Trek series 1701-?

23rd. USS Enterprise...no letter.
What I WANT is a late 24th or early 25th century show that has nothing to do with an Enterprise and is the story of a ship in the fleet with some kind of unique situation (see: Defiant or Voyager).
But I know that won't happen. If we do get another one, it'll be the Ent-nil and 23rd century.

I agree, we need to stop going back and go forward.
I want a non-Enterprise ship in the late 24th century exploring and shizzle. ANd don't make it too big!
People who think it should be set in the 23rd century make me angry. DS9 and TNG were as good if not better than TOS.
I'm also fed up of the media going on like only TOS was a worthy star trek series.

It'll probably be yet another alternate version of NCC-1701...with probably purple-glowing nacelles.
Don't expect it to stop any time soon, but you're not alone in feeling this way. There are quite a few of us, in fact, but we tend to get drowned out in a broader media sense.
I'd like to see it move forward also, and build on the universe created in all the series, not just reboot. To seek out NEW life and NEW civilizations...
As to which ship, or what to call it, I don't know. I would like to see a U.S.S. Obama somewhere in one of the new films.
For a new series I still lean towards an Enterprise, but its not a deal killer if the right stuff is there.

Hard to say. You could do a show on a terraforming mission, or any number of things, but personally I think part of the magic of ST is the spirit of exploration.
I agree, they probably should have changed NCC numbers with each class of Enterprise. The letters, especially if it goes beyond E, it getting ridiculous.
"If it goes beyond E?" We already know they make it as far as Enterprise J.
But I agree with the OP, the next series should set on the Enterprise G. Or maybe the H.
Ahhh I haven't seen ENT. I'd thought the Ent-J was a fan fic.
Ent-G would be fine with me, but so would changing the NCC number and dropping the letters. Canonical war shall then ensue.

They might go with the 23rd Century but I don't think they'd use the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701. Why? For the same reason there's no live-action Batman series and why Smallville hasn't had Clark Kent become Superman: it would hurt the movies. The argument against having Kirk, Spock, and the original Enterprise in a new series is "Why would people go see them on the big screen when they can watch them on TV every week?" The only way I see the TOS characters back on TV is if they stop making movies.
I wouldn't have minded having a series set in the 25th Century with an agnostic continuity where it could take place in either the Prime or Abrams Universes but the twin destruction of Abrams Vulcan and Prime Romulus makes that difficult.

Maybe. There is a certain uncomfortable irony in capturing the spirit of exploration by sticking to the same tried-and-true formula used for 28 out of 28 seasons now. (21 out of 28 seasons if you count DS9 as a departure.)
Fact is, though, while you might have some interest for TNG there really isn't any broad support for DS9 beyond its core fan base.
And TOS is the one that has made the most impact culturally whether you like it or not.
We don't, really. The characters involved who saw that future went back and changed things.
The "Enterprise-J" should be lumped into the same catagory as the three nacelled Enterprise-D.
If Star Trek returns to TV it'll almost certainly be another reboot.
It'll be the 1701 no letter, but discarding the old continuity means that it could be set at any time in the future.
There are plenty of DS9 and VOY fans, and the two series have made a lot of money for paramount, they've also given a lot of people a lot of enjoyment.
I think its insulting to have them dismissed, ENT too.
I would be willing to bet that a lot of the money STXI collected was from people who got into trek through DS9, VOY or ENT.
I was one of them.
The Truth is Kirk and Spock are cultural icons and are recognizable outside the fanbase while Katherine Janeway and Benjamin Sisco are not cultural icons known beyond the fan base.
