People keep saying SNW will turn into a Kirk show (i.e. a reboot of TOS). That may or may not happen. Personally, I hope it doesnt, at least not until season 5 or 6 at earliest.
I hope it lasts that long and Kirk is pushed out as far as possible. But, I won't hold out much hope.

A TOS reboot will always be the elephant in the room since this supposed be the same Enterprise as the one from TOS, and you already have some TOS or TOS adjacent characters onboard.

I think if they have a Kirk Show, then it's the same as admitting there won't be another Kelvin Film.
I think the Kelvinverse has been dead for some time. It served its purpose in maintaining the brand during a drought of Trek shows on TV, but now that a soft-rebooted prime universe has returned in the form of various streaming shows, it seems redundant.

Nothing lasts forever.

Sure, and I'd say Discovery is the most likely since it's already at season...uh...is it 5? But which NuTrek show has "died" so far?
....

Nevermind, I feel so dumb right now; PIC is ending isn't it? I swear I ignore that show so hard I even forget it exists sometimes

Shutting down DISC for any reason, let alone just because 7 seasons has been the shut off point in the past, would have to be the most boneheaded thing they could do. It's still just a baby with entire universes of potential ahead of it.

Please, PTB, don't do anything stupid. Keep DISC flying for as long as it takes to deplete its potential, not follow some idiot tradition.

Well, I wouldn't say PIC has "died", as such. That would imply an unexpected end. And since everyone knew from the get-go that PIC would only have three seasons...it hasn't died. It just ended, like it was supposed to.

And none of the other shows' runners think they'll last forever either, do they? I'm sure they all have an ultimate endgame of sorts.

Oh I'm not saying that DISC has to end after 7 seasons or anything like that, just that as the oldest show it might be the likeliest to end. Like, what if for example Sonequa Martin-Green wants to move on from playing Burnham at some point? Since she's so essential to the show (at least from what I've seen) I don't think the show would continue without her in that case.

It was self-terminating, like TNG, DS9, and VOY. ENT and TOS were the shows that were ended forcibly.

Probably Prodigy, those Nick shows tend to have a short life. Then Discovery, which is on its fifth season.

DISCOVERY is the one I pick to be the one most likely to end next. It's a simple matter of age... it will be starting season 5 soon. Whether it goes beyond that, I have no idea. But one of two things will happen... it will end after season 5, or it will end on whatever number season it will take to get to 100 episodes, and for a basic reason. (By my calculation, a season 8.)

The suits will want to see it have more episodes than ENTERPRISE, and that ended with 98 episodes. They will want DISCO to hit triple digits just so they can be in the same club as TNG, DS9, and VGR.

Plus, it's also a matter of cost of actors. The longer a show is on, the more they get paid.

Possibly. But Prodigy has something most of the Nick shows don't: a legion of adult Trekkie fans.
Still, it is aimed at a child audience and I kind of get the impression that it's a show which is telling a specific story which will reach its inevitable end at some point. I'll be surprised if it lasts past three seasons.

Yeah, but would CBS/Viacom, under the guise of Nickelodeon, be willing to maintain a show on their kid-friendly channel just because adults watch it? If it moves merchandise, maybe. If it doesn't, I'm not so sure.

Yeah, as a viewer of animated series during the 90s and early 00s, most shows I watched typically ran for 2-3 years. If Prodigy goes for three seasons, I would say it had a good run. If it pulls in Spongebob numbers, than it can go for much longer.

Don't get me wrong. I hope it goes longer than seven season too, if it makes sense. I just want to at least hit the seven-mark.

that’s a big key…how long does SMG want to keep playing Burnham. She’s like any of the other series leads in that she so indispensable it’s difficult to imagine a show without her.

although I do think you could make an argument that DS9 could have gone at least one more season minus Sisko. But that’s only because they had far an away the strongest ensemble of any Trek show. You had 6-7 other characters that could have picked up the slack.
