Next new Star Trek model kit!

Rÿcher

Fleet Captain
(to keep the auto-preview from spoiling.)

I can't wait! It's supposed to be released sometime in 2009 and be 1/1000 scale (roughly 17 1/2" long)

So, it'll take about, what, 5 minutes for the first batch of

Terran Empire re-decoes

to be done?

Psst...we've already got a bit of discussion going on about it here...

And I can't wait, personally. A 1/1000 Akira is going to be quite large, but it'll be worth it.

*squee*

Must...control...myself

I just acted out like a 7 year old finding out he's going to disneyland.

I just had to measure out 30 inches on the tape measure.

AND, and, get this, a re-release of the E-E! *woot!*

Here's to ya padre!

I've got a cute little 6 inch or so Akira here on my desk. It's resin. I'll likely buy that big one, though, too. Akira is so rare... anything outside of the Enterprise's and Klingon ships is rare!

I take back every bad thing I ever said about Tom Lowe.
I don't know who the guy was in the Polar Lights booth at WonderFest last month, but he seemed genuinely interested in what we had to say; they had two questionnaires, regarding what sorts of kits we build, what licenses we were interested in, what licenses we thought they should pursue, and he also jotted down several notes during our conversation (I brought up the Leif Erickson kit, and gave him the URL to the Project Rho website, so maybe we'll see that kit resurrected at some point ;-)). They were also giving away a very cool little cardboard replica of the original AMT Enterprise kit box, which includes a photoprinted inside showing the kit parts still attached to their trees :D. I haven't built mine up yet ...

Me too!

Who's Tom Lowe?:cardie:

He founded Playing Mantis, and then the sub-companies Johnny Lightning and Polar Lights. It's thanks to him that we got all those Polar Lights kits. And then he SOLD THE DAMN COMPANY to Racing Champions, who only wanted the JL die cast cars and shut down Polar Lights just as the Trek kit license was in full swing. I cursed his name for many years afterward.

Now he's back, and he bought Polar Lights back from RC2, and he's back in the game with the Trek license. I still don't appreciate the feeling of abandonment and the lost years and what we could have had in that time, but at least it's back.
