It would be interesting to have a Captain who didn't feel the necessity to mince words and speak through a "PC" filter.

The Star Trek property answers only to a master that sees characters in one way; in other words, TPB would not have the interest--or the balls to ever have a character like Archie Bunker as captain (no matter how much of an interesting, potentially groundbreaking change that would bring to a stale property), and not make him a villain all others must foil in every story.

Yes. It's Angela Bassett.

Wow. What did Angela Bassett ever do to you? She'd not be my first choice (I'd really like to see Viola Davis as captain) but she's still a more talented actor than about 90% of those who've been in Trek (I've seen them all) and would make an excellent choice.

It's fine to dislike an individual actor--matter of taste. However, the following response to another poster who also suggested Bassett would be a good choice,

suggests something other than Bassett's thespian qualifications are at issue. As this isn't TNZ, I didn't word my response more specifically than "what did Bassett ever do to you?", but the sub-text of the post re: "PC zombieness" seems fairly obvious (and rather objectionable).

I'm sure there are Bieber fans who make a "big deal" about it. Those who hate him are usually quite willing to list their reasons. Bassett doesn't have the same rep as Bieber, so it's an odd reaction.

Ahem, PC Undead don't like the z-word. They prefer "Living Challenged", "Differently Animated", or "Undead-Americans (or other country of residence)." The Walking Dead has made great strides in the depiction of their people by never using the z-word once in six seasons.

Anyway, I think Angela Bassett would make a fantastic choice to play the captain. And if it pisses some people off for whatever reason that we won't say out loud but we all know given the way he overreacted and ignorantly brought up political correctness even though that makes zero sense, that's just a bonus.

Well, Archer is one of the strongest fighter in Star Trek. He can even beat a Borg in a first encounter fight. Something that even Picard can only dream So, to go down in a fight quicker than Archer is still acceptable
