For what it's worth, he made a very nice, sincere apology afterward.Weir got a bit too petty and pissy in the fallout from his comments he made about Kurtzman turning him down last time for my liking.
The post ends with a picture of the "Most Interesting Man in the World" meme with the text "I don't always put my foot in my mouth. Oh wait I do." (It might be showing in the preview, but including it here just in case and for posterity if the post is ever removed.)Open letter to Alex Kurtzman:
Hey, Alex. Andy Weir here. I'm posting to apologize about stuff I said on the Critical Drinker's podcast.
I feel like my quotes were taken out of context as salacious sound bytes. I hope you saw the other parts where I said how much I like you as a person and what a nice guy you are. Also how I like SNW and LD.
I was trying to be funny, but in retrospect it comes off as disrespectful and mean. So I'm sorry for that. I was also trying to be self-deprecating when I said "But they didn't like my pitch so fuck 'em!" but out of context it can read like I actually meant it.
I'm a blunt person - always have been. And it's been 10 years since the media cared what I had to say about anything so I kind of forgot to watch my words when I have a film in theaters. In a couple months I'll be back in my cave writing novels and no one will care again.
Anyway, if you want to talk about it in real time - even if it's just to rip me a new one - I'm happy to hop on the phone or zoom.
Jon Del Arroz is one of my favorites, he got offended over Bill Nye the science guy being cast in SFA season 2.
But it wasn't Bill Nye, it was Bill Nighy (Davy Jones). They're looking for things to start a controversy over.
(It must be hell to be an illiterate sci fi author.)

activist execs and critics are poisoning the writing.
Don't get me started on JDA.

"The Cloud Minders," "A Taste of Armageddon," "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield," "Justice," "Measure of a Man," and "Critical Care" have entered the chat.
Where have you BEEN since 1966? Trek has always had a message.
I asked Google to summarize Outcast91's post in less than 200 words. Is there a Cliff's Notes version of your posts available?
The author argues that recent modern television franchises like Star Trek (specifically Discovery seasons 3–4 and Picard seasons 1–2) and Fallout have suffered from dumbed-down writing, a lack of cohesive visual style, and an over-reliance on special effects.
Rather than blaming the writers' personal beliefs, the author points to studio executives and an "ideological and adversarial marketing strategy." This ecosystem intentionally uses culture-war flame wars and activist podcasters to drive engagement. Ultimately, this corporate micromanagement and toxic online feedback loop overshadow the actual storytelling, replacing intelligent, nuanced messages with poorly crafted scripts and distracting from the enjoyment of the franchise.
In a nutshell that's mostly what I'm saying.I asked Google to summarize Outcast91's post in less than 200 words.
He should pitch it to Matalas. Not to mention the concept he talked about would've been utterly surface-level and mindless.
Do provide examples for the class.(An episode in a serialized Television series can stand on it's own, and still be part of a serialized program.)

Sorry to hear it. My condolences on what must be a rough day for you.the 20th anniversary of my father's death
Let's not go there at all. We don't need to attract the attention that might bring these days.(It would be wrong for me to [removed by Mod] on the 20th anniversary of my father's death, but to make an understatement...I'm really looking forward to him leaving office.)
