News? Stories from Dubious Sources

Ehh, i'd put it at 70/30 in the wrong direction. enjoyed the first half of SNW (forever changed by the end of season 2 when it stopped taking itself seriously), all of lower decks, picard season 3, small parts of most seasons of discovery (lorca was great until the reveal, truly enjoyed season 5, it found its footing just as it ended. s3 was nothing but wasted potential. s4 was boring. s2 was victim of the writing change. at least s1 had an identity.)
Define “wrong direction.”

I like large portions of the current era, and while there's stuff that I like about every one of the shows, there are definitely a few shows I have trouble loving wholeheartedly.

I feel like most would at least agree it's been a mixed bag, even if there might be quibbling about how much of it was good or bad and what the good parts and bad parts were. 🤷‍♂️

And after the final season of Stranger Things, I’ll pass on the Duffers, too.

P+ is not going to be handing them $50 million per ep budgets anytime soon. :shifty:

Please god no on Matalas.

Make a shirt with that logo and a photo of Terry Crews in a Starfleet uniform and you'll have my attention.

As someone who likes what 80% of the seasons currently aired of the Kurzman era and 88% I think of the Berman era seasons I would call the current era a success of consistent likability.

Not really a "dubious" source, but the Paramount+ Head of Originals had this interesting albeit vague comment in Deadline today:

Says the person who wouldn't give Paramount+'s most popular current Star Trek show a full 10 episode order for the final season.

Not serious enough would be my guess. Regardless of my view, Star Trek is treated as serious business in terms of how it should be presented. People are serious and professionals like a 19th century noble naval officer, never swearing, no emotions expressed except in private spaces. Do not share personal things.

To be fair, she was hired two months after that decision was publicly announced on June 12, 2025. The article above (released today) is commemorating the one-year anniversary of her hire on August 13, 2025.

I could do without the Muppet and musical eps. :shifty:
Musical ep was brilliant IMO. Easily one of my favorites.

I don't mind gimmicks as long as they have something interesting to do with them, and that one had a lot going on and deepened the characters. Plus the songs were bangers.

OTOH, the puppet episode of Community (which was also a musical now that I think about it) is easily one of my least favorite episodes of that series, not because it used puppets, but because the stories being told were uninteresting and didn't ring true to the characters.

We'll see where the SNW puppet episode ends up.

That was a recurring problem in the "gas leak year." The replacement showrunners just never had a handle on that final "Harmonization" Dan Harmon brought to the final draft scripts.

Shows you how vital the showrunner is to a series' voice, because most of the same writing staff from Community's third season stuck around for season four.

Just based off a reviewer I trust said about it. I think it will be good. and it's not like I agree with everything they say, they didn't like the musical but I loved it, though their dislike was more of the story not the actual musical part.
