News? Stories from Dubious Sources

You know it does kind of sound like a casting sheet. In fact, there is another article linked at the bottom of that one that that sounds even more like it came from a casting sheet:

https://www.theilluminerdi.com/2021/04/20/picard-characters-time-travel/
That actually doesn't sound so bad. But as for the original article I posted I'm with you 100%. I really want that to be fake.

We’ll see soon if they’re legit - if you take a look at their site you’ll see that they also posted a supposed casting sheet for Strange New Worlds. We’ll see soon if these match the characters we actually get.

Way before PIC aired I saw the casting sheet for the characters (it turned out to be legit, it matched the characters we eventually got). It read exactly like the stuff these folks post in their articles.

The Rachelle character in that breakdown could line up with the filming photos we saw with a LA Bus with a space travel advert on the side.

I see that the Strange New Worlds stuff matches up really well.

I mean, just going by the black characters (and if this has been done already, then never mind)...

First on the list is Yeboah. She’s Black, in her early 20s, and fresh out of the academy. She’s a linguistics genius, bright, promising, and the youngest member of the crew and she can sound “American” or have any other accent. While this isn’t really a whole lot to go on, the breakdown does sound similar to a cross between Hoshi Sato and Travis Mayweather from Enterprise.

So in the middle, Celia Rose Gooding. I can see that.

The ship’s doctor is a bit of a puzzle. The name is listed as “Biodun” and the description states he is a close advisor to Captain Pike, has an air of “easy erudition”, is male, Black, in his 40s, and curiously, “from the original series”. In TOS, the doctor was McCoy, played by Deforest Kelly and in ‘The Cage’ the doctor was Philip Boyce, played by John Hoyt.

Being totally honest here, but in the back of my mind I was thinking ship's doctor for Babs Olusanmokun.

I don't know know why I was thinking that, but he just struck me as possibly being the ship's doctor. And this is the first time I'm reading this Illuminerdi article, so weird... :)

Of course, Babs Olusanmokun as "Biodun," the ship's doctor, would be cool as hell to me.

His nurse...
Last up we have Biodun’s nurse, Miller. She’s in her late 20s – early 30s, Caucasian, heroic, charming, free-thinking, and “the beating heart” of sickbay. So, more or less, Dr. Crusher?

Maybe the second from the right? Jess Bush. I can see that.

The other two...
Next up is La’an. She’s in her late 20s – early 30s and is the head of Security. She’s badass, physical, and suffers from PTSD. She has an air of vigilance and precision. They’d specifically like someone who is East Indian, Asian, or Middle Eastern, but are open to any ethnicity. She more or less sounds like a combination of every security officer we’ve seen on screen.

Second from the left, Christina Chong. Maybe...

Last...
Our third breakdown is for Ortegas. She’s in her late 20’s, Latinx, and an experienced vet. She has kept a dry wit even with the combat she’s seen. She’s smart, funny, competitive, and is able to pivot from handling a gun to making a joke. So, maybe a Riker-type? Riker was able to pretty seamlessly swap from being dead serious to cracking a joke so she should fit right in.

On the far right... Melissa Navia. Maybe her.

All of this assuming of course too that this Illuminerdi article is 100% on the mark.

The Deadline stuff is from March of this year, and the Illuminerdi is from November of last year.

So hey...

Yeboah = Uhura. Biodun = M'Benga.

But shhhh, we're not supposed to know.
Based on that cast video, for this Yeboah character I was thinking a Chekov or Sulu role for her, as helmsman or navigator or whatever.

But yeah, if this is correct then it's a Uhura kind of role.

In a way that would be really fun, I think. And if they gave her a bouffant hairstyle too that would be kind of wild. And maybe a little too much too, but yeah... :)

The earpiece is a must though. I mean, c'mon...

If Babs Olusanmokun's character is the doctor then it would probably be too much to have him say something like, "Dammit, Chris... ." He'll need his own quirky doctor thing.

Speaking of Nurse Chapel, and I was going to say that I guess this time around none of the female crew will be wearing skirts. But of course in "The Cage" Number One and Yeoman Colt wore pants.

EDIT:
Number One in "Q&A."

Yeah, females had variants in their uniforms too. I get that the miniskirt was the more prevalent visual but there were still options, so wearing a skirt is far from mandatory.

Same in "Where No Man Has Gone Before".

Though even once the miniskirts arrived you'd still see women in pants from time to time.
Oddly enough, "Where No Man Has Gone Before" is my second favorite Star Trek episode after "The Cage." (Favorite non-Discovery Star Trek episodes, at least.). I'm sure it had nothing to do with women in pants though. :)

No, that early episode felt like a Star Trek "The Cage" episode and less like a Star Trek: The Original Series episode. And for obvious reasons, of course.

In "The Cage" there is a girl in a miniskirt. And her friend, he was in a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, and had sandals (or flip-flops) on, so okay... it was kind of relaxed up there, I guess.

EDIT:
Because I can't spell "short-sleeved."

Off duty leisure wear would be my guess. Might be headed to a beach simulation on the Rec Deck. Or maybe a round of tennis.

Wait... they have tennis courts? :)

No, I've played tennis since I was a little kid. That was one of the things that I thought was neat about Janeway. Tennis came up in about every series, I guess, with Bashir and others...

It's a civilized sport, so of course it'll still be played centuries from now. "I'll serve your a** like John McEnroe" notwithstanding. :)

I love how the list "our trusted and proven source" links to is literally just articles with a "confirmed" tag on it, and the top article says that Chris Pine is attached to the new Star Trek... which is not actually confirmed past a Deadline reporter Tweeting "While no deals are done for talent, hearing the hope is the Shakman STAR TREK would be for the Chris Pine crew to return."
