Ooh, the new poster. That's going to make alot of people very happy.

Hope we get to see a bigger version of this soon.

saw new pix of Quinto. Looks good. I see that Spock look in the eyes. Good. What's he sound like, though?

Good point about the voice, that's an important factor and it hasn't much been discussed. The way I remember it, his voice isn't as deep as Nimoy's, but with some resonance, a pretty good voice for the role.

Great choice. Definitely looks the part. Nice to have Nimoy involved as well.

I'd love to have a copy of that first teaser poster...

I thought it was interesting that Nimoy commented on the script. For some reason, hearing Nimoy praise the script as really good has some credibility to it, i'm not exactly sure why though.

Several good reasons, YMMV:

1. Nimoy was heavily involved in some of the best trek movies.

2. He obviously didn't feel they butchered the characterization. (whew!)

3. Fans love the guy.

4. He obviously has no major objection to the story either, so hopefully this means it'll be in tune with the original.

5. He has shown himself to be very protective of the Spock character, so the fact that he is actually coming out of Retirement to act in the movie bodes well.

E! Online said the contract was with the lawyers. Let's hope it's not Sam Cogley, he didn't seem very enthusiastic about this development... ;)

I've changed my mind somewhat after seeing Quinto and Nimoy together at Comic-Con yesterday. I think Nimoy's rousing endorsment of the script reassured me more than anything else.

While there is some physical resemblance between the two men, there was -- more importantly -- a very surreal vibe coming from the two of them that made you believe that this will actually work. Abrams joked that Nimoy's wife (backstage) was getting very confused by the two versions of her husband.

When Quinto came out on stage, he was moving very slowly and deliberately (sort of like a robot). It was unclear if he was already trying to come off as Spock-like, or if he's just a fucking weirdo in real life.

I hope it's the latter, because if it's the former, I would argue that he's trying too hard already.

Anyway, pretty good news all around.

The oddest bit was that Abrams said he was still trying to find a way to get Shatner into the movie. It sounded like he wasn't really trying that hard, which is probably a good thing at this point. I would hate for them to force him in just for the sake of doing it.

Just because Abrams can do a thing does not mean that Abrams should do a thing.

I wonder what actual surprises will be revealed at Comic-Con tomorrow. It certainly can't be Quinto and Nimoy. They aren't surprises anymore.

That was pretty much it, actually. It was a little bit underwhelming.

Abrams said that there's still another Comic-Con plus six months to go before the film comes out, so stay tuned for details. But no details were offered.

Even stranger, the fans didn't ask for any details. Then again, the questions are screened now and there's a kill-switch on the mike if you stray from your screened question. (This might be a result of when I asked the entire DC creative team panel last year if Beppo the Supermonkey was still a virgin...)

if all they do tomorrow is announce him as spock without having found a kirk yet then they really dont know what they're doing

how could you be sure of one and not the other without knowing how they work together

I realize you're just trying to show everyone how common sense is anything but common, but I totally agree with you! Hell, when the original series cast Nimoy as Spock, there wasn't even a Kirk character! How screwed up is that!?!?!

As for this "chemistry" you're tossing about, well seeing as how one character is already cast, wouldn't it be -- I don't know -- awfully damn easy to see how other potential actors act opposite him?

To be fair, that treads on an ongoing police investigation involving the DC editorial offices...

ive not seen this guy in anything yet, but my first reaction is why am I not suprised someone from Heros is involed in this project

I wouldn't be surprised if Greg Grunberg wasn't whispering in Abrams's ears saying "This guy Quinto I'm working with would make a great Spock".

Smart move on his part. Now Sylar can't kill him! :D
