The commanding general you saw in the pilot in Jack O'Neill, as a colonel he lead the first team throught the gate back in the mid 1990's, although a single scientist did go through the gate in the 1950's. SG1 refers to his later team's designator or call-sign. The woman in command of the human ship Hammond is Colonel Samantha Carter, she started out as a captain with SG1 and was the brains of the team. The (boring) video that Eli was watching was narrated by Danial Jackson, an archaeologist, he figured out how to "dial" the gate and is largely responsible for it being useable. There's a forth member of the SG1 team we haven't seen during SGU, that's Teal'c, big guy, you'll know him when you see him.

Could easily run into them on SGU, they could have disappeared out this far since the 4 Race Alliance broke up.
