New years traditions

My family has always had a tradition on New Year's Eve to get Chinese food. The last couple of years, we've driven to Chinatown in Philadelphia to get it. This morning (actually, right now too), there was absolutely horrible wind (we had to chase things blowing away in the yard and then it knocked out the power). My family didn't really feel like driving all the way to Philly, but they eventually got talked into it and we had a spectacular meal.

My question is, does anyone else here have any traditions either on New Year's Eve or day? The other thing we do (which I think is a bit more common) is to eat mustard greens and black eyed peas (for good luck, I think). I used to hate that when I was younger, but now I don't think I'd dream of skipping it (not so much because of superstition, but just because it's tradition).

We always went out to find a hobo to beat to death. Too damn cold this year for it. :(

I've been going to my mother's house for Chinese Food on New Year's Eve for about twenty years. Back then, my sister and brothers would be there. Now it's my niece and nephew and maybe one of my brothers. But the blizzard kept me home this year, so no Chinese Food.

My other New Year's tradition is the Three Stooges Marathon. It's on upstairs right now. Nyuk nyuk. :bolian:

Chinese food for us as well. Plus flipping between Stooges and Zone.

But with the snow and a lot of housework (cleaning the basement type) today we're just too pooped to party. It'll probably be an early night as well.

Don't really have any New Year's traditions. It seems like every year we were doing something different. Sometimes we would go to my grandparents' house, sometimes just stay home and watch TV, sometimes go to bed early.

So many people seem to have traditions involving Chinese food. Out of 6 family members only one of us likes Chinese, so we pretty much never eat it.

Heh...I just noticed it's 3 minutes past midnight here. That's how "into" New Year I was this year.

Hey, it's a day off. I'll take it! :)

Every year my family gets together at my grandparent's house at 4pm to celebrate "Scottish New Year". They're from Scotland, and 4pm our time is 12am there.

My wife and I have our annual sex.
Zorro the Gay Blade:
Captain Esteban: Do you know… that little thingwe do… one night… every year?
Florinda
: Yes! Oh, yes!
[Esteban drops her on the floor and walks off.]

Captain Esteban
: We still have three months to go!
Florinda: You fink!
:)
Lauren Hutton is great

I don't really have much of a tradition myself. Usually it's watching the programming on TV (I really miss the Scottish Hogmanay shows, which are mostly much better than the English fare) on New Year's Eve, then on New Year's Day I find time to listen to the New Year's Day Vienna concert either on the radio or (usually) the second half on TV. Anything else is a bonus.

Sadly I've had to deviate from that routine this year. :(
