New X-Files Series in Discussion

Very excited about this! I'll be happy with regular paranormal investigations or if they decide to go all alien conspiracy again.

In order to get Mulder to consult for that case, they dropped all charges and everything was swept under the rug. They didn't elaborate. They also didn't explain how they got William back, either.

William, their son? They never got him back. He's not in the movie.

Really, I remember her saying he's sleeping in the other room and never mentioning him again and no other explanations about anything. Hmmm. I just bought this movie along with all nine seasons and the first movie, but I "neglected" to watch it again when I watched all of them. I will check.

I have to say about the I Want to Beleive movie, I liked it but it was the most draggy boring movie I've liked. I've been bored with movies before that I didn't like, but I've never come across that peculiar combination with another movie.
Yeah, he's not in the movie. There's a Season 10 comic and he's been mentioned...
Currently no one knows where he is, but his adopted parents have been killed and replaced by entities posing as them.

I love the idea of a series revival.

I saw I Want To Believe only once. I don't really remember much about it, save that Mulder and Scully were in Margaritaville by the time the end credits rolled.

What was the status of Mulder and Scully when we last saw them? Just former FBI agents, or former agents and fugitives?

Agents with an unknown status, on the run, and wondering what to do about an alien invasion, stuck in a motel (just like the pilot episode.)

Seems to me to make this popular, you'd also need a character in there who is under 30 - GA is the youngest and she is 46.

What would William be? 16?

William is only mentioned in the second movie, in that Mulder asks if the sick boy reminds Scully of William. The film also mentions that Mulder might be thinking about his sister due to the case (Although didn't they wrap up that storyline already?)

I was, and I am, a fan of X-Files..so I am carefully excited about
this return of the show to television.
I just hope it wont be some rushed up job and so forth.

It could be that Mulder and Scully wont be the only main characters in the show. Maybe there are some younger FBI agents that they are mentoring or something..or maybe Scully and Mulder are not in the FBI anymore and thus need somebody from the inside to access the X-Files. This way they could bring some fresh characters to the show.
( I want Skinner back also:techman:)

I think a limited run maybe FOX & Netflix could work on it together because I doubt a long running 22 episode a season show will work anymore. Also wasn't the invasion of Earth meant for 2012? so is that going to be ignored?

It would probably be a mini-series like that recent 24 one.

As for the 2012 invasion, they could either set it in the past or say that it got delayed. A lot of it depended on the Syndicate spreading the viral version of the black oil and herding people into FEMA camps. Since the Syndicate has been wiped out and there was a cure to the black oil virus, they might have had to change the plan.

Maybe. But I'd hope it would air on FOX as well, since not everyone is subscribed to Netflix.

Good point. I wonder if it'll be from that point in time or past it.

I would love to see Doggett and Reyes come back, too. I need to know what happened to them!

I was reading this thread hoping someone would mention Doggett and Reyes. The episodes might not have been up to snuff from the previous seasons, but I did enjoy Doggett's character and Reyes was someone I was slowly warming up to in Season 9.

Duchovny is willing, but doesn't want to do a full season.

Duchovny tells USA TODAY he's "more than happy and excited to bring it back and do it again with (co-star) Gillian (Anderson) and (series creator) Chris (Carter)."
.....
On Tuesday, Duchovny, 54, said, "I'm assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We'll see what form, how many (episodes). Certainly I can't nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We're all old, we don't have the energy for a full season," he said with a laugh.

That was me as well! It wouldn't be the X-Files either without them too.

Hopefully the bumpb will be excused; it's of relevance and I thought it a good idea to keep it in the same thread. I just read this today:

THE X-FILES---Fox confirmed it has ordered a six-part miniseries based on its sci fi tv series with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning. Production begins this summer.

It'll be interesting to see what approach they take with this. I know a lot of the fans would probably prefer they address the Colonists' Invasion arc, but I could see them deciding not to focus on that in order to make it more accessible.
I guess now I have a motivation to finally get back to the full series set I have. I bought it years ago, but I got distracted by other things and never made it past season 2. I love the show, but I kept putting it off in favor of other things and never went back to it.
I wonder if they knew this was a possibility when they started the Season 10 comic?

I'm with you and I'm not so sure that this will succeed commercially. All Fox has to do is look at the bring back of 24 in London for how a series like this has reached its life-cycle. And in 24's case, it was immensely more popular than X-Files ever was.

Highest rated 24 episode, Season Five, "7:00am-8:00am": 17 million viewers

Highest rated X-Files episode, Season Four, "Leonard Betts": 29 million viewers

Season Four of theX-Files averaged 19 million viewers per episode.

I like 24 but it was not "immensely more popular than X-Files ever was."

Ouch . . . burn!!!

Somebody is droppin some cold hard facts up in this joint!

I went off X-Files in it's last few seasons but I am damn happy to read this news.

I will be waiting to see this.

Hope it doesn't suck. And I say this only because I am used to disappointment, not because of X-Files.
