Wow! Can't wait for this one, looks good.
IMO, that's a bit of a shallow reading of the trailer. Rather, I think this is going to present a moral dilemma for the Doctor. He must intervene in order to make sure that what happens on the base always happens on the base, and that is going to come at some sort of heavy price.

, it's a parallel situation...the Doctor has to do something (maybe destroy the ship to Earth) in order to prevent a greater tragedy and this comes at a price, perhaps leaving the people on the base at the mercy of the water and whatever is hiding in it. This event (creation, or maybe re-creation) of the Ice Warriors?) is a fixed event. Whereas most of the things we see in Doctor Who are events "in flux," this is not, so the Doctor is working to ensure it (and therefore the rise of an enemy of humanity later on perhaps) happens, rather than working to prevent it from happening.
IMO, given
the final specials will include information about the Time War and feature at least one Time Lord other than the Doctor and Master.

I'm with Peacemaker. This seems an obvious and brilliant origin for the Ice Warriors. But, I'm not going to jump to conclusions. I remember my dissapointment last year when the black robed villian in SJA turned out NOT to be the Black Guardian.

These would be the Ice Warriors whose civilisation on Mars rose and fell before mankind had even come down from the trees let alone travelled to other planets?
they could be a future evolution (or devolution) of the Ice Warriors, like the Macra in Gridlock.
Race bank, or genetically engineered organism designed to recreate their species? Quite honestly the 4th Doctors comments about the Fendahl 'Taking out Mars' on the way to Earth, and no reference to them in Pyramids of Mars, yet having them turn up again a few centuries later always bothered me. Seems like this would be a fine way of explaining the gap in their existence.
But as always, its all just fannish speculation. You have to admit the odd broken skin around the mouth is pretty similar.
I now can't wait for this. Hopefully we can forget all about that silliness with the flying bus and witness the fantastic final hours of the Second Greatest Doctor Evar ™
