New Voyages-"World Enough"

Re: New Voyages-"World Enough" is More Than Enough....

While that would be amazing, I just don't see it happening. I'm supposed to be editing at least one of the two Blood and Fire episodes and I haven't received any footage yet. Probably more like first quarter 2008.

Haleluja, my sixth attempt at the torrent download finally fucking worked.

Now if only I could get the damn thing successfully burned to a DVD that my TV player will accept.

Technology hates me.
Download this program, DVD Flick. Flick can turn almost any type of video file into a dvd file that can then be burned to disc. ASnd it's simple and easy to use. It doesn't create menus for scene navigation, just a simple dvd format file for burning.

BTW, I noticed that WeaT is on Stage6.com in 2 locations, one of which is the above posters (see siggy link ^). I would hope that Trek1701 is suppling view and download numbers to the NV team so they can keep track
Intersting, thanks for the heads up. Kinda tired of waiting. When a direct download is made available from NV, i'll d/l again from there so it's added to the official count.

Re: New Voyages-"World Enough" is More Than Enough....

^cylkoth, My fellow graphic artist at work used Movavi Video suite to do it for me - sounds like the same kind of program. In fact he used it as a test run to get the company to buy the program for the department .

Once the MP4 was converted to an MP2 we had no more problems using any DVD-creating software. I even managed to burn an extra copy at home with my crappy little Roxio utility.

Re: New Voyages-"World Enough" is More Than Enough....

Just saw the episode. Totally blown away by the quality of it. It looks and sounds amazing. George Takei was great, and the woman that played Alana was almost hypnotizing in her beauty and manner. Great casting!

Re: New Voyages-"World Enough" is More Than Enough....

Even my wife (who HATES fan films) enjoyed it. And she even commented on the young lady as being the highlight.

Re: New Voyages-"World Enough" is More Than Enough....

I argee. This was by far the best that James Cawley and crew have ever done. Cheers to them! I see only great things coming in the future.

Master Illusionist: Cool name and I loved that movie. I watch it several times a week even now.

Re: New Voyages-"World Enough" is More Than Enough....

FANTASTIC!!

I loved this one from beginning to end!

Kudos to Mr. Takei and the entire NV team. This one was a classic Trek episode!

BTW... How old is Peter Kirk supposed to be in Blood and Fire? He looks like he's aged about a decade since OA! It might have made more sense to use one of Kirk's other nephews. Oh well. ;)

Re: New Voyages-"World Enough" is More Than Enough....

It was great, looking forward to "Blood and Fire."

Re: New Voyages-"World Enough" is More Than Enough....

Wow, this was indeed an amazing effort by all. Christina Moses was wonderful as Alana-and this entire story would've fallen flat on it's face if she had been anything less than superb. And just when you think Takei couldn't be any cooler than he is, he up and, well, brings the house down... The NV regulars gave their best performances thus far, and given that most aren't actors.

The one nit I have to mention, especially after the last installment, is the lack of a scene where Chekov visits Future Sulu, glares at him for a few seconds and grumbles in his best Russian accent..."Copycat..." And then both burst out laughing... :alienblush:
Great story, great plot, great effects. Grade 10. :rommie:

I gotta say, as my first experience with a torrent DL, that whole system seems pretty stupid. Instead of just downloading the file you want, you download a file that then tells a proprietary new program to download the file you actually wanted in the first place?

Why not just let us DL the file we want?

Needless extra step, needless extra program. Which doesn't work for me anyway.
With respect, your comments show that you clearly don't understand how torrents work versus (inferior) direct downloading, or how internet bandwidth works in general, or else you wouldn't be passing value judgments by using words like "needless."

But NV is asking people not to torrent this episode anyway, they're worried it will hurt the accuracy of their viewer count on their site. I think the ethical thing to do if you *have* downloaded it via torrent would be to pop onto their stream page to let it record your "view."

Hopefully next time they will host their own BT tracker server, which would have allowed them the speed and cost benefits of Torrent-based distribution, while still preserving a 100% accurate count of successfully completed downloads.

I think it needs to be said here that understanding the technical difference between torrents and streaming is not the issue.

Please keep in mind before criticizing anyone for not "understanding" something about this issue, that it was portrayed as a "simple" matter. For those who are not already acquainted with Torrents, it was anything but simple. It was in fact a royal pain in the ass, even though I have used file sharing software before.

Several people graciously tried to explain the process, but despite their good intentions, each of them were not able to clearly explain exactly what to do or how to do it (and I do thank everyone who offered help). The suggestion that finally hit the jackpot was to use the built in torrent download capability in the Opera browser.

Now I'm not claiming I"m a computer expert. However, I also am not an ignoramus and I will say that while it would now be quite easy for me to download a torrent program and am glad to have the knowledge of how it works, the learning curve was steep and frustrating.

Luckily, the product was well worth the trouble and I suspect that much of the frustration on the consumption end is echoed on the supply end.

Indeed, it is a wonderful movie. :)

That was the best piece of Star Trek I've seen in a decade.

Indeed.

Considering within ten to fifteen years the 'net is how the majority of us will be getting our media, I kinda don't have a lot of time for people nowadays who poo-poo downloading.

But then, movie studios said tv would be a passing fad, too.

Downloading is here to stay. Either learn how to do it, or go back to listening to radio serials presented by Lux Soap on "the wireless".

Wow, hard to imagine people actually getting personally offended by my negative reaction to my first esposure to a difficult first-time process. Get a grip, folks.

Much of my reaction was due to the file failing to download repeatedly, no matter how often or from what computer I tried. I asked a number of very computer-savvy friends and some of the computer geeks at work for help - and none of them had even heard of torrent downloading!

So stick the eliteist attitudes if you please. Now that I know how to use torrent, there'll probably be no more trouble with it. I understand its intent, but my opinion of its lack of ease and convenience over simple "right click, save target as" DLing will not change.

Broken links, overloaded servers, painfully slow connections, inability to pause or resume your download, more costly... Not very convenient!

And as for reliability, well.. direct http download is a complete joke compared against torrents, which actually get faster and more reliable as more people download simultaneously.

This is not an elitist attitude, it is a simple technological fact of the internet.

But yeah, for torrents you do have to be willing to click twice instead of just once, so I guess it would be "out of reach" for some users.

I had the same experience as Forbin so he's not the only one. The problems you described with downloading were exactly the ones that I ran into with the torrent. I had to download several times with various software to find a combination that worked.

There were maybe two of us who complained, but one of the lessons you quickly learn in retail sales is that only a very small fraction of your target population ever speaks up to you when they're disastisfied, although they will tell a lot of other people about their bad experience. The rest say "screw it" and never go back.

It wasn't as easy as advertised and dismissing the people who didn't find it easy as you do (especially when those people were trying it for the first time) as stupid and/or lazy won't win you any friends.

Oh and don't worry, I won't be asking you for any help with computer problems in the future. There are plenty of polite and well mannered people (who remember what's it like to be frustrated by problems which everyone assures them are easy to fix) who are glad to help.

But I tell you what if you ever run into a problem and you ask me for help I'll be sure to respond exactly the way you have. You probably won't like it.

Sorry Mallory, sometimes you just gotta tell it like it is. I hope this doesn't de-rail a celebration of a great project.
