New Voyages-"World Enough"

Again......what happened to the Kirk in Archer uniform storyline and is that Denise Crosby at the end in the credits?

From what I understand from the NV boards, James Cawley (Kirk) wore the ENT uniform for the credits as a joke. And yes that is Denise Crosby, she will be guest starring in the "Blood and Fire" two-parter as Dr. Jenna Yar, grandmother of Tasha and Ishara Yar. For more information, visit the NV website which has a magazine that can be downloaded that contains an interview with Denise Crosby on her role and how she signed aboard NV.

Also, I must add that I was able to actually see the episode before the Magic Time crash and it is the best episode to date. It had everything a Trek episode should have emotion and action.

^^I totally disagree with your views on the acting. I don't get it-I just don't understand how you can come down so harshly on the acting. It just is not as BAD as you type. I don't know-there must be some personal hate going on with you. For the love of Pete, I consider myself very critical of bad acting but these people have improved and I see it in this episode. I am totally blown away by your entire post. :wtf:

Hmmm ... I wish I could watch "World Enough". I tried watching the first episode and couldn't sit through it. Cawley's hair and the script and music built by cutting and pasting snippets from other episodes and movies had me cringing before I could finish the first part. I even stayed away from New Voyages for exactly that reason, not realizing things would improve.

Tonight I watched the third episode, "To Serve All My Days" and really enjoyed it. The timing and pacing was a little off, the acting didn't quite floor me, either, but it was good enough to tell the story and it certainly was better than the first episode. D.C. Fontana's script was a little weak, too, but it wasn't full of cliches, and the ending caught me by complete surprise.

But I'm not trying to bash this enterprise. Actually, I'm hoping they continue to make more episodes. They're so damned close to nailing the flavor of the original that I'd be surprised if they didn't get it exactly right in the next few shows.

And what the blazes ultimately happens to Chekov?! Is he really dead in this version of Trek? Wow.

That has become a massive point of contention amongst fans. What confused and upset me was that, from the beginning, Cawley said NV is being presented as "season four of TOS".

Fine.

If you want to do that, however, do NOT kill of characters we KNOW are alive for the next thirty years in ST's timeline. I have no problem with killing people off and then legitimately bringing them back. Hell, TOS and the movies have done it many times. Don't give us some arty farty bullshit ending however that does not match up in ANY way with anything in the ST canon.

For me and a lot of friends, that ending ruined what was something we were very much looking forward to. Fortunately, WEaT was pretty much exceptional and redeemed them in our eyes.

I'm actually glad they went that route, throughout the whole episode, I kept thinking there was nothing in the story to support Chekov's survival except for some last-minute deus ex machina crap. I kept thinking there was something on that other Klingon ship, or the ambassador wasn't what she claimed to be, but none of that worked for me. I was so certain they were going to go that route, that I actually felt a little let down that a very poignant scene at the end between Kirk and Chekov was going to be ruined by a last-minute save that it took me a moment to gather my senses and applaud the team's bravery for killing the lad.

I think there are three possibilities ... 1) this is the "Starfleet Universe" version of Star Trek and there are no movies. Chekov is dead. Any character can die, and thus a resurrection of some sense of jeopardy has occurred. 2) This is the real Star Trek universe and Chekov will be resurrected in another episode that has yet to be filmed. 3) I forget what the third possibility is, but I reserve this spot to claim I was right when we finally do know what's going on.

I liked the guy doing young Pavel. He did a great job. And the makeup was fantastic, I really couldn't tell which Chekov was the least made-up Koenig.

You forgot option 4: You can simply infer Checkov's resurrection from the fact that he's back in WEaT. Or does that hurt your brain too much?

Now THAT was a Star Trek episode. Kudos, hurrahs, three cheers, etc, all round. This is the first fan film that made me say WOW and run out and tell all of my friends.

Andy Bray and John Lim as Chekov and Sulu are both outstanding. All the more so since they're the only ones who have gone toe to toe with the "real guys". Cawley seems to be getting in touch with his inner Nick Meyer in that his Kirk seems much more reserved and real this time out. (Don't get me wrong, he still has plenty of supposedly Shatneresque ticks, all the more distracting because they're the exception rather than the norm.) Spock still isn't Nimoy, but he's gotten much better. Nice job, Mr. Quinn. I think you'll be missed.

The only one that's still not doing it for me is McCoy. I suppose it's better than someone sputtering and twitching an overblown De Kelley impersonation, but he's just so nondescript. Scotty is way better than reported.

The writing was top notch. Heart wrenching all the way through.

If they keep improving at this rate, I'm really excited to see what comes next, let alone episode six!

It was always planned by Walter & D.C. for there to be no on-screen resolution to Chekov's return. He's simply be back the next episode and he was.

This is an extraordinary accomplishment. Congratulations are due to everyone involved, not only for the skills and talents on display in this episode but for the perseverance and dedication to continual improvement over a span of years that has enabled the "New Voyages" team to reach this level of achievement.

Forgive me if I am just being stupid--but with the demand to see this--why couldn't they simply upload it to YouTube?? Just asking as one who can't view it as of now.

Youtube has shitty quality that would not do the episode justice, if you ask me Stage6.com is the way to go these days, high quality, video size and no file size restriction make it superior video host site.

I have to agree with the earlier poster regarding the acting, and this being my first post after reading this board for several years, my feelings on this are strong.

I wanted this to be good, I really did. Visually stunning, great story, absolutely horrible acting from the "new" crew....Kirk, Spock, Bones and Scotty being the ones I mean. I'm sorry, but every moment of screentime from these people took me immediately out of the story and made me want to scream. The actor playing Spock should never have been allowed in front of a camera for any reason. The others were just barely better.

The best thing they can do at this point is begin to replace the principal actors with people who can actually pull it off. The new actor playing Spock looks like he *might* have a chance, but then we've only seen a few seconds of him on screen.

I'm not saying any of this to fan the flames. I just finally hit the point where I had to express my opinion. I feel like so many of the posters here are hungry for anything Trek, that actual critical opinion is clouded.

Don't bother to flame me on this...it took me years to post the first time, and I'm pretty sure I won't again for a long time. I feel better now :)

^^I find it strange" that YOU are the only one taken back by the acting while the general consensus here thinks that it was fine. Could that possibly give you the insight to at least think that perhaps YOU are incapable of being bias? Others here have throughly enjoyed this tale so I think its sad, honestly that you didn't have a good time with this adventure. That's too bad. I really, really enjoyed it and I am glad that I have the capacity to do so-makes life much more fun. ;)

So if I understand correctly -

This is currently only available as a "Torrent File"?

Which being as technically illiterate as I am, I think means I have to download a separate program to open the file after I download it?

Is he the only one, or does this general consensus you mention possibly include others? I don't think he's the first to complain about the acting in New Voyages, and I doubt he'll be the last. I think it's an unfair criticism, however, given that this is basically an amateur production with a little help from the pros here and there. I still can't sit through the teaser of the first episode, but what I've seen since looks better in every respect. The acting improves, the writing improves, the visuals improve, and the music improves.

But it's logical for someone new to New Voyages to start at the beginning, and it's really hard to come away from that with a good impression. First impressions last, and I imagine a lot of potential fans watch the first one and give up halfway through. Heck, I baled out in less time than that, and it took me over a year to come back and try another episode.

I've been involved in a number of amateur productions over the last eighteen months as a writer, actor, cameraman, and make-up artist. I went into that thinking I'd be a natural and that acting would be a snap. What I saw the first time I watched myself on screen made me cringe. It isn't easy to convince people you're the character and not a grown adult playing make-believe in front of the camera, so I have a better perspective on productions like New Voyages than I did before. I'm willing to cut the cast a little slack and temper my criticisms with a reflection of the intent and skill of the team. But it would also be inaccurate to sugar-coat criticism of the finished product and claim the acting was on the same level as a professional production.

Well, a professional, non-Sci-Fi Channel production.

Oh well, what can you do..........Just keep trying I guess. People like Mcgyver keep us on our toes. There is always room to improve......
