New Voyages Site Update?

It is not down because of the lawsuit. It and our Facebook page are down for other reasons. No immediate plans to fire it back up (for complicated reasons). It's as frustrating for us to be incommunicado from our fans as it is for our fans to not be able to get a hold of us easily.

Will keep everyone posted when the dynamics change. Please weather the storm with us in the meantime.

It was yesterday, I believe. Someone asked if he was still making fanfilms and James replied that he's closing up shopl because it hasn't been fun since 2007.

I don't have time this morning to go find the exact quote and timestamp.

He deleted that FaceBook post on his wall an hour or so after making it. He posted it about 11:00 last night EDT.

That’s sad news. It would be interesting to hear James’s thoughts on why it has stopped being fun and what would need to change for it to be fun again? One of the things that always attracted me to Star Trek New Voyages was that it really comes across on screen that you guys (both on and off camera) are a group of passionate fans doing something you love. Do you know yet if you guys will finish up existing projects before stopping? Also by removing the post is James having second thoughts about stopping?

I keep asking him his plans for stuff we already have in process--"Origins--The Protracted Man," "Bread and Savagery," and our most recently-shot "Torment of Destiny." No updates from him yet. Also, he told people a couple of months ago to fly in in June to shoot two episodes, and he hasn't yet rescinded that. So, no one is sure if "closing up shop" means before of after a June shoot--and if we are not going to finish stuff we've already shot, why shoot another episode that we can't/won't finish?

A reminder: if CBS is going to issue Fan Film Guidelines, STNV's days might be effectively numbered anyway.

I used to follow James on Facebook and he seems to be prone to posting "I just had a really bad experience. I won't tell you who or what, but I feel hurt and now I'm taking the ball and going home" drama, only to calm down and change his mind within hours. All this kind of behavior does is make one seem like they have a very fragile ego. I think at least insofar as finishing episodes already shot, James should try to reach a final cut he can live with. People volunteered so much time and effort for him, for free. It's not nice to flush that away due to perfectionism or moodiness. That's not counting any remaining commitments to crowdfunding campaigns (if any).

I would be sorry to see that happen. I can certainly understand how it would stop "being fun" what with all the negative energy from the dust-ups with the STC folks and the chilling effect from the Axanar suit. If it turns out to be just a momentary attack of FTS, great. If not, and this is the "end of the road", then thanks for the great memories, good luck with future endeavors, and know that anybody ever who says to themself, "I could make a Star Trek film" owes you guys big time.

It's a trait that often comes along with being quite a theatrical or dramatic person, so it's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm very measured and unflappable and rarely fly off the handle and do things without consideration... but I'd be a terrible actor. The access to emotion near the surface has its positive and negative sides.

I hope that James can find a way to continue making Episodes for all to enjoy. With the 50th Ann. just around the corner, it would be nice to have New Voyages enjoy the event.
I hope James can find his joy again.

It's just at this point it feels very Boy who Cried Wolfish. I've learned the hard way not to treat things like this as final.

the negative energy from the dust-ups with the STC folks

I am sorry, there has never been any "dust-ups" between NV/P2 and the STC folks. Vic and James have had issues in the past but that is as far as it goes. No one at STC has EVER said a negative thing publicy about the folks at NV/P2 and in fact, many of us are friends. I am so tired of this false perception of some sort of petty, bitter rivalry; it's not true!

For what it's worth:
