New voice of the ship's computer

Bob Dylan.

LOL As much as I love his music, he would be really annoying as a computer.

I'd LOVE to hear Theodore Bikel do it. I fell in love w/ his voice when he was in The Sound of Music in I think 1965. Unfortunately I also agree w/ the poster who said it should be someone young, so that won't work.

Some interesting choices, folks. I also like the idea of Jennifer Lien doing the computer voice.

My own choices:

Male Voice:
-Robert Picardo
-John Billngsley
-Michael Ansara (Kang) (Did great voice work as Mr. Freeze on Batman: TAS)
-John de Lancie

Female Voice:
-Chase Masterson (Leeta)
-Roxann Biggs-Dawson
-Denise Crosby
-Gates McFadden

I like the idea of a ST actor doing the voice simply because it would be a nice homage to all the shows. I'll give some thought to other voices without any ST association later.

I think it would be fun to hear Mr. Bikel do the same voice for the computer as he used for the MC in 200 Motels in 1971. There's not a snowball's chance in hell of this ever happening, of course, but the mere idea amuses me quite a bit.

Me. with my fabulous lawngeyeland accent!
Then i could live forever in Star Trek!
And i would die very happy!

Frank Welker.

Don't ask my why, but when I first read that post I thought it referred to Werner Klemperer. I could even hear the computer saying: "Caaaaaaptaaaain"

Anyway more choices:

Kesley Grammer
David Hyde Pierce
Mark Hamill
Lucy Lawless

Ooh! yes, maurice lamarche is something of a genius, i think. not only did he do a spiffy orson wells impression as the brain, but he has also done a lot of work on 'the simpsons' and futurama. most notably on the latter he is calculon, lrrr, and morbo, (among many others) all very distinct characters (and damn funny.) he is also inexplicably credited as playing sylar on 'heroes' for one episode in 2006. anyone know what this is about? he has done some neat stuff on adult swim, couple of my favs being 'oblongs' and 'harvey birdman.' along with stuff for nickelodeon, disney, and warner bros., which brings me to the best credit ever - freakazoid.

so he would be a great choice, partly because i have just always liked him, but mostly because he has oodles of experience doing voiceovers of all kinds and is quite good at it.

and still i know he'll never get this gig. but this is a very entertaining thought.

^ Diftorhehsmusma, i just did a little googling and found this for you:

"LaMarche acted, voice only, in the second episode of the hit NBC show HEROES, "Dont Look Back" as the villian Sylar. His voice is heard in a chilling recorded phone conversation on Chandra Suresh's answering machine. The role of Sylar was later played by Zachary Quinto.

neat! :techman: told ya the guy is good.

i need to search YouTube for that clip. I really want to hear it now.

I think i would prefer a woman's voice for the new ship's computer, rather than a man's. And i don't know if i want it to be a recognizable voice or not. Its such a little thing but i am getting worried about this. omg, i am so anal....

Gilbert Gottfried: "Fer cryin' out loud, are ya gonna raise the shields or what?"

:guffaw:

I can actually hear him speaking as the computer!

"Two Vulcans and a Borg walk into a bar...."

Sean

Fabulous set-up -- now I want the punchline!

Ok. Here goes.

*impersonates Gilbert Gottfried*

Two Vulcans and a Borg walk into a bar, and the bartender says to them, "Sorry, but I don't serve freaks here."

And the Borg says, "But we left the Gorn at home."

*rim shot*

Shouldn't there be enough audio records of Majel Barett to be able to create ANY computer reply imaginable? I mean she spoke the computer for like 500 episodes.

Possible, but does any one know what the cost would be to splice together something new like "Ship specifications: Name USS Guinevere, Registry 8-5-9-9-3, Class Excalibur, crew compliment 850, maximum speed warp 9.35."

Also wouldn't her heirs need to approve of her voice being used? And if their approval is needed, would they have to be paid?

If that is the case, and I don't know if any of what I posted is true, wouldn't it be easier just to get a new voice?

Besides I think it's time for a new computer voice. Majel Barett has gone to rest, and a new voice needs to wake.
