New uniforms in Season 2 Trailer

Indeed, some of the more iconic Starfleet uniforms don't last long at all before being replaced as the apparent "mainline" uniforms. The ones we associate mainly with TOS seem to last only from the second year of KIrk's five-year mission and are replaced by eighteen months afterwards (i.e. by the point TMP starts), and the cooler late-TNG uniforms are from the third year of that show, replaced by a couple years after the E-D is lost. In both cases they are succeeded within 5-6 years. Assuming those uniforms are in mostly-fleetwide use, most modern militaries would scoff at that waste of resources!

I like the new uniforms for the Enterprise crew. I don’t mind the current iniforms for the Discovery (and the rest of other starfleet ships and on Earth). Perhaps the rest of Starfleet including the Discovery crew will eventually change over by season 3 or later.

ENT's uniforms seemed to last the longest of any single Starfleet uniform design prior to the Monster Maroon and its variants (71 years). The uniform existed unchanged from the regular series appearance as early as 2143 and a variant is still in use at the birth of the Federation in 2161. The Franklin uniforms that bear many similarities to the ones seen on ENT are in service by 2164 at the latest so we know that the United Earth Starfleet jumpsuits are phased out by the first few years of the unified Federation Starfleet.

The only ones that seemingly last forever are the TWOK maroon uniforms, but it's possible they ran alongside the TNG season 1 jumpsuits for a while.

The earliest we see any visual evidence of the TNG Season 1 uniform is in the library computer image of a young child Jeremiah Rossa with his Starfleet father Connor Rossa in a photograph taken in or around 2350, before Jeremiah's parents died in the Federation-Talarian War. In 2349 Jack Crusher recorded his holographic message for newborn Wesley wearing the Monster Maroon jacket without an undershirt and with a TNG commbadge.

Maybe the maroons became dress uniform jackets. That would at least square it with Wesley’s age.

It's getting ridiculous how people keep trying to retroactively impose on/apply to Star Trek a visual "consistency mandate".

Visual consistency in Star Trek is an illusion and always has been, and it's only now that people are desperately scrambling to find something to complain about with Discovery that we're seeing people try to explain away - badly - the fact that there has never been a concerted effort to maintain visual consistency throughout the entire history of the franchise.

As far as these new tri-color uniforms are concerned, I'm willing to bet that they're just for whatever members of the Enterprise crew that we see and won't carry over to the Discovery's crew.

That's easy to fake, you have an assistant or program post a photo.
Sure it could be faked but since he has a play opening on Broadway this week and they are in final rehearsals and preview shows............doubtful.

Exactly. The DSC Uniforms will continue to be worn by the Discovery crew. The "TOS" Uniforms are like the TNG Uniforms in this time period and the DSC Uniforms are like the DS9/VOY Uniforms.

The good news is, now we have an "out" if Discovery or one of its spin-offs ever hits 2270. No way would I see them switching to the TMP Uniforms when/if the time came. Though, who knows. They made it work with Pike in the first two Kelvin films. But we probably won't ever get to that point with DSC, so it's academic.

Don't know about that. Totally different time of course but the Equinox was a science vessel and they wore different colour accents in their uniforms.
Equinox had identical uniforms as the Voyager crew.

The Monster Maroons were significantly modified for each appearance in TNG.
The Enterprise C commissioned about 20-30 years before Farpoint; the jacket was the same, but the turtleneck and belt were dropped.
The holographic Jack Crusher, filmed a couple years before his death about 10-15 years later, had the same jacket as Ent C but wore the TNG combadge instead of the TWOK pin.
The flashback from S6 showing a younger Picard and Beverly on their way to identify Jack's body shows them wearing the TNG S1 uniform; so over the course of 70 odd years the uniform does change - although the most recognizable aspect, the maroon double breasted jacket, remains essentially the same (the costume designer shortened it slightly for GEN)

I don't know when filming started; it's entirely possible that he is able to do both; Toronto is less than 2 hours by plane from NY.
Considering that so far, DSC has not recast any actors from the Kelvin movies in the same role; the odds of it being Quinto are low. ;)

I was curious and actually googled '3F' in relation to Star Trek and got this:

Spock Quarter's were 3F 125 (though so was Janice's)

Rand moved rooms after 'The Enemy Within' presumably after the 'evil Kirk' attempted to rape her and I thought (although I may be wrong) that Spock took her old quarters. Maybe he use to live in them quarters and moved out to a different one or Rand could have been part of the Enterprise crew for longer than we thought (and maybe she could be in S2 of Discovery) but this seems unlikely because Kirk says in one of the early episodes he is unhappy about being assigned a female Yeoman and I honestly don't think people would remember the character or would have anything meaningful to do if she does appear.

As an aside, what they did to the Maroons for TNG always struck me as really low-rent. The coats looked bad with no belt and that big gap at the collar.

They were missing the turtleneck, which like you said, made them look cheesy. And yeah, the missing belt made them look more like smocks than uniforms.

Yup. I get that they wanted to recycle what they had but it's too bad they couldn't come up with some intermediate uniforms. Especially when it came to the Enterprise-C.
