New (UK) Eaglemoss Star Trek Graphic Novels Collection

Trek Survivor

Apologies if there is already a thread about it somewhere, but partwork publishers Eaglemoss (who release the Star Trek: Starship Collection partwork) have just released issue #1 of a new "Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection", similar to their "DC Graphic Novel Collection" series:

http://www.eaglemoss.com/en-gb/sci-fi-fantasy/star-trek-the-graphic-novel-collection/

I found issue #1 in Oxfordshire, but have heard this is just a pilot test at this stage - if popular, it will go nationwide later in the year.

Looks good, especially if later editions publish rarer or never-collected issues from some of the DC, Marvel 1990s run etc.

All of the comics over the years collected in hard copy editions?

If this comes to pass and continues until complete, then I will be extremely happy.

Unfortunately for those of us in the States and elsewhere, this series (like most Eaglemoss products) is unavailable to buy outside the UK.

This takes up a lot less space, though it doesn't include the newer IDW stuff:

I say they'll have a trial run and if it goes well it might come out elsewhere.

The OP did say so in the very first post and it's what they did with the Starships collection four years ago now.

Eaglemoss products do get a US release, usually after a few months of UK publication. These days, US readers sign up online and the volumes of the Starship collection are sent to them, two ships at a time.
eg. https://www.st-starships.com/

Highly likely the graphic novels will repeat this procedure. Ditto their previous partwork offerings as GE Fabbri.

I subscribed to this collection through the website (in post #1above) back in early May and didn't hear/receive anything other than an email from Eaglemoss confirming my subscription. I emailed Eaglemoss today and was told "unfortunately the collection is on hold at the moment, however as soon as we have information in regards to the restart date we will let you know by email". So presumably the trial run has ended. Hopefully they'll make the decision to restart the collection in a full run.

Yeah, IIRC with the Doctor Who making of books many (all?) people who subscribed during the trial period didn't actually get copies, where were effectively date collection to give them an idea of subscribers for the main run. Unfortunately the websites for part-works never explain this very clearly.

Yep, #4 was the last volume in the trial run. Purely from my own observation around here, it seemed to sell quite well (even when it got to the regular price for #3 and #4) so I hope it has justified a full run.

Did anyone else complete the feedback survey for Eaglemoss? One thing they wanted opinion on was what sort of 'special issues' people might be interested in... one option was Star Trek figurines!

I said a definite yes to that one; I've wanted a Star Trek figurine collection (akin to Eaglemoss' Classic Marvel Figurine Collection, or the more recent Doctor Who/Game of Thrones ones) for years. The starship one is OK, but I've always been more of a 'character' Trek fan than a 'technology' Trek fan. Here's hoping Eaglemoss does some good things with the licence in the years ahead.

I agree about the figurine collection/\ but within reason.
Between all the principal characters of the different shows that is in itself quite a number. But if the collection were to include entries like "third alien council member,ep.4,season 2...then things get silly(and expensive).

Agree. The Classic Marvel Figurine Collection ran to 180 issues ultimately (and assorted specials) and they really went to some obscure superhero characters to get that number.

I think a circa-100 collection would just about cover my 'wants'. As you say, just counting main cast of the various series you're looking at about 43 separate characters. You'd then want to cover recurring characters - the likes of Q, Grand Nagus, Garak, Lwaxana, Gowron etc.

And then you'd want to get in some of those iconic alien designs (let's face it, nothing but Starfleet human characters would be a boring release) - Gorn, Borg, Ferengi, Hirogen, Armus and so on.

But I do feel, if the releases are mixed up well, it would be a good success.

Plus,think uniform variants.
And civvies variants.
You could easily picture 100 or more figures of just the main cast(s).

I did collect both the Marvel and DC superhero figures and TBH some of the best figures were those obscure characters.

Just to let everyone know, the collection is confirmed for a nationwide release beginning January 2017! I think the "premium subscriber" additional books have changed since the trial run (they're now the run of photo-novels by John Byrne) but at least the first four issues of the full run are the same as the trial run. Hopefully they haven't changed the spine art either, so I don't have to repurchase those volumes!

There are usually equivalent releases (of GE Fabbri, now Eaglemoss partworks) in Australasia, delayed by a few months of the UK releases. I thought the Eaglemoss starships partwork series was available in USA, but by mail rather than in newsstands.

The Eaglemoss starship collection is available in the US through comic shops, just as their graphic novel collection will be.

I didn't expect the graphic novel collection on this side of the Pond due to IDW's license, but it seems that Eaglemoss and IDW worked that out. The Doctor Who collection is a little different in the US -- no magazine -- due to licensing restrictions. And I'd like to see the How to Draw Marvel collection make it across the Pond, but there may be licensing issues there, too.

The Eaglemoss collection that I would really like to see over here, and I have no expectatiion of ever seeing it, is the Build Your Own Solar System Orrery collection. I'm not sure exactly what it's called. But that's what it is. And I would buy that. :)

Did you subscribe (I know you say you saw it in a shop in the opening post, but I wasn't sure if you bought it or ordered online later)? If you did you should get the new books automatically and either not be charged for them or not have been charged for the trial issues (this seems to vary, on the Transformers one that's just about to go nationwide subscribers weren't charged for the Trial). That means they don't miss out on any changes made from feedback/having more of a budget from knowing it's going to be a full series (IIRC the Judge Dredd one completely replaced its spine art before going nationwide from stock images to an original piece), plus means they get the free gifts that are supposed to come with those early issues but don't usually with the Trial.

If you were buying from shops, you may be buggered (though if the spines are the same and internal changes are only minor like correcting typos you'll be fine).

I emailed Eaglemoss asking if my subscription for the trial issues would automatically be moved across for the relaunch. They replied (very quickly) saying yes it would and that I would receive a welcome letter in January to confirm this.
