Response to the MORON post ...

Just want to say this ... a lot of the responses were about me making some technological gripe about the Enterprise being built on Earth.
This is SO not the case. And thus many of the posters of the responses missed the point.
My post was about the fact that the writers and producers had made such a big deal about honoring the canon and knowing enough about the past episodes and movies to do so. And yet their comments about the Bird of Prey indicate a serious lack of understanding that led to a number of false assumptions.
See, had they understood Star Trek history, they would have cited "Tomorrow is Yesterday" as the precedent, not Star Trek IV.
I have no problems with showing the Enterprise being built on the ground, scientific or otherwise. And obviously I don't think writers are Morons. And I said I was making a statement of hyperbole.
This is really about what can legitmately be expected out of Star Trek anymore. Can fans expect the writers to know the whole universe, or should the fans at least expect the writers to at least interpret things correctly.
Considering the vast majority of "trekkies" can't interpret things correctly, I'm not too optimistic.
