New Trek Movie Halloween Costumes

Has anyone bought one of the new Star Trek Movie Halloween Costumes from Rubies? I was thinking of purchasing one for a party and wanted to know about the quality of them. The Deluxe ones seem to cost about $80.

Do they also run a little on the large size as well?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Eh. I think they seem very costumey. I guess for a party they'd be fun. Not sure about the sizing, sorry.
I'd say go for it. Personally, I would get my costumes hand sewn so they're just what I want, but that path is expensive and time consuming. But it's only $80, so why not, right?

...I've seen them, but I wouldn't buy one. I did grab some $5 spock ears the other day though.

Speaking of costumes, what is the best route to take in buying good, high quality uniforms? I don't really have the cash laying around to invest in them right now, but at some point I plan to obtain some. To the folks who have a Trek wardrobe, do you buy yours pre-made/retail and have them taylored if necessary, or have them custom made from scratch?

I've been hesitant to consider buying the $40 uniform shirts and suchlike in that general price range sold online, for fear that they are rather disposable in quality.

@Joshua: I've never had a costume made personally, but I would usually go through sites like Etsy. I know there are female costumes there made to fit the subject, and I'm sure men's shirts would be far easier. If you live in a bigger city, there are probably some hip tailors who would love to make you a trek costume. Definitely expect to pay up though. Custom tailored stuff is expensive. I guess for halloween, store bought is more practical if you're just going to get beer all over it anyways. ;D

I bought the Rubies TOS science uniform recently. I plan to modify it as much as possible to pass Star Fleet scrutiny.

The difference in the fabric is acceptable in the blue and red, but the gold doesn't look quite right enough. The collar is a bit loose, which I will hem in a little once it is on me. The gold sleeve braiding isn't exactly accurate, and I went looking for something more authentic, to no avail so far.
My biggest gripe with the costume is the silk screened emblem on the chest, but I have an embroidered ensignia that can be sewn over it.

I bought a pair of black polyester pants with a subtle diamond pattern to the weave. Rolling up cuffs with a few straight pins for the 'high water' effect should do the trick. A pair of side zip pleather boots are fugly enough to look 'futuristic'.

I am debating whether or not to sew black velcro onto the pants to attatch my phaser and communicator, or to make a utility belt. (Both approaches were used in the series.)
With that new full-sized tricorder slung over my shoulder, I think I will make an acceptable Star Fleet officer.

My partner wearing my old Next Gen uniform next to me is another matter...
