New Trek Movie based Game in the Works?

Frankly, after the disaster of Legacy, the cheapo budget titles of Encounters and Conquest, and the collapsed Trek MMO, I have finally decided that it's probably just best if no one makes Star Trek games anyone. They seem to be cursed.

There is an old saying:

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Ronald: How you can judge a game to be poorly made when it hasn't even been released?

The Glory days of Trek gaming died when Activision was given sole control of Star Trek gaming...Interplay, Simon and Schuster, and Activision's competition kept Trek gaming
exciting and imaginative. With possible competition on the horizion, maybe there will be new exciting games for us..

I'll believe it when I see it, having read the article it looks like he is just making it up as he goes along. 'Now, I have no evidence, no proof, no confirmation, but these guys could be making a new trek game'

wtf?

I am not judging a game I have not played. In general, if it is poorly made(due to budget ot schedule, etc), I would have rather it not been made.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought CBS has nothing to do with the new movie, which is still in the hands of Paramount Pictures, whereas CBS only handle the TV side of the franchise and merchandising based off that?

So true. I miss those days.

I'm hoping we'll see some kind of adventure game out of the new film. Whilst I've enjoyed the Elite Force FPS games and I'm sure Conquest will be fun and satisfy the "Star Fleet Battles" wants in me (although I'm really hoping Klingon Academy would be resurrected for console/PC/Mac), it would be nice to have a game that's more in the "spirit" of Trek for a change.

I need something intelligent.
An RPG like KOTOR set in the Trek universe but with more intelligent puzzles, worlds for exploration, etc ...
A starship combat system that could be similar to Bridge Commander (only with far better graphics) and numerous other features.

I'm quite sick of all the mindless FPS games we are being swamped with on a continuous basis.
I liked both Elite Force titles yes, but I kinda do prefer a mix of everything.

Mass Effect type game set in the Trek universe sounds good.
It could be set about 2 ... 5 or 10 years after Nemesis which gives plenty of time for SF to incorporate the Slipstream tech into it's ships ... and I mean the version 2 that Voyager used to cross 10 000 Ly's in 1 minute before shutting down the quantum matrix that almost threw them into their death ... that would open the entire Galaxy for exploration.

Would be great to have a good quality Star Trek game. I haven't bought any of the recent ones as the reviews look horrific (for the PC versions anyway).

Come back Microprose, Simon & Schulster, Interplay and Activision!

No game is better than a poorly made one, that includes the alledged new one or STO.

And a poorly made one may even be better than no game at all.
For example, if Legacy was the only Trek game in existence, I would probably like it. More.

Personally, I think they should dig up the old code for Borg: Assimilation. That game looked like it had some serious potential.

Activision did a great job overall IMO with EF1, EF2, BC, and I liked AT and even HE. It was definitely much better than some other companies have done before and since.

However, the movie tie-in games have all had issues; Activision itself split with Paramount and suggested that delays in info made it difficult to tie-in the games.

We've seen ST: Generations come out, ST: First Contact cancelled; ST: Hidden Evil also attempt to be the Insurrection game. However each of these had timing issues IIRC; by the time the game is ready the movie has been out for some time.

*loads up a Commodore 64 Star Trek game and plays happily... even if he can onyl destroy one klingon ship before they destroy the Enterpris*

I play my Star Trek games very happily ..
ST 25th Ann,Judgement Rites,A Final Unity,Klingon Honor Guard, Starfleet Commands 1 2 O/P and SFC3, Elite Force (with a TOS Mod it's fantastic)..modders are keeping Trek gaming alive...not new releases.. wait until there's competition again..then it'll return in force..and not be "Slap some Trek stickers on that FPS" it'll sell great!!
