With all of the talk on the boards, I thought it would be interesting to have a poll to see where people are in reference to the new trailer.

Thought the trailer was great except for the spot where they flipped the video and you see the insignia on the left instead of the right on Spock's uniform.

That's happened in a few trek trailers and promo pics in the past too... Nothing new there.

At first I thought it was a trailer for Top Gun 2386.

I'm not crazy about Quinto as Spock but there wasn't much of any actor in the trailer to really make a judgement. So, I'm cautiously hopeful about the movie. But I think the trailer is a bit scarce in really showing all that much about the movie.

I like it. the Enterprise's nacelles are too close together, giving that untrustworthy look, but I'm looking forward to seeing a real Trek movie. That's not to detract from the better movies we've had, but this feels much more like a proper movie.

Channeling Scotty there, CaptainWacky? :D

Love it. Even the Enterprise under construction and in flight gave me goosebumps (and I was one of the detractors of the new design). :techman:

Just randomly:
-- Noticed there are Iowa license plates on the Corvette Kirk is driving.
-- Those huge things in the background of the opening shots are definitely buildings of some kind.
-- Looked like Kirk was in bed with an Orion woman in that one quick shot near the end of the trailer. At least she looked green to me. Whoever she was, she definitely did not have on a white bra like Uhura's.
-- We've already seen a publicity still of Spock going for Kirk's throat. In the very short shot of it in the clip, it is reversed. The giveaway if you didn't see the still is Spock's Starfleet logo is on the right side of his uniform. (Seems to be a lot of reversed shots down through Trek history. For instance, the trading cards on the back of General Mills products promoting TMP were almost all reversed.)

One thing that I noticed was that the Enterprise did not seem to be under construction anywhere in the vicinity of San Francisco... that is, unless desert wastelands have sprung up in the San Francisco area by the 23rd century...

It's actually New San Francisco. In this reboot universe, after Superman failed to stop Luthor's second missile he just cried for a bit and then went home.

I always thought the Enterprise was built on Mars?

The trailer didn't do anything to add to my interest in seeing the film. It looks like a good big budget scifi movie, but there's nothing that really says "Star Trek" to me beyond some surface details. However, I'm sure it was geared towards the non-Trek fan, so that's not surprising. I'm still cautiously optimistic about the movie, but the trailer hasn't enhanced my anticipation any.

I loved it!

My boyfriend, who is thoroughly anti-Star Trek, actually said he'd go see it with me, because "it has some pretty cute guys in it." That, and I think the opening scenes of the trailer with the Vette and the motorcycle helped in showing him that it might not be as space-shippy and nerdy as he thought it'd be.

I'm counting down the days!
