New TOS discoveries in HD/DVD

Here's something new I noticed yesterday in my HD set. Throughout most of the scenes in "Arena" where Kirk battles the Gorn, his boots have laces on them and he's wearing black socks (because of the location shooting and all the running around). But I never saw this before!

I noticed that long ago when I saw it on tv.

Honestly Im sure the Blu-Rays are nice and shiny but everything you guys are seeing , you can see on the Standard DVDS.

Nuh-uh.

With my interactive HD set, the characters talk to me, answer my questions about the show and complement me on my knowledge of Star Trek. I bet your standard DVDs don't do that.

I'm sure your old DVDs are lame and dull but I prefer 6 times the resolution.

But folks feel free to chime in how all the detail seen on Blu-ray, with 6 times the resolution, can be seen on standard DVDs. I'd like to know who the idiots are.

And don't forget - for most back then a remote control was a LUXURY. If you wanted to change the channel, you usually had to get up off your ass from the couch, and turn the dial (yes, a dial; with between 9 or 10 VHF channels, you DIDN'T key in numbers on a 10-key keypad).
The first VCR my family bought included a remote control -- with like a four-foot cord. Remote, indeed.

Actually I did. I noticed the shoes were not the boots. Even if you lower the resolution on that pic you will notice hes wearing flimsier shoes. Theres no heels on the boots and his right foot is kinda bent. I just looked at my "Inferior " standard dvds and the shoe laces are visibe in all their glory. Sorry guys, try harder.

No ones arguing that the clarity is a little better. I have seen comparison shots. Yeah their shirt collars may be a little sharper and the colors a little brighter. But the standard dvds are closer to what I watched on tv for years as a kid so Im keeping them. Im not interested in seeing inconsequential stuff on screen. If you enjoy that fine. But if you like it or not the shoe laces are VERY visible on the standard dvds. I just checked. People are just looking harder now because they have the Blu-Rays. They are crediting the BluRay technology for this and it is just not so. Have you ever checked the Standard dvds or tv airings to see if these details can be clearly seen. If not you argument is baseless.

NO MORE BLAH-BLAH-BLAH!!!

Are you people seriously trying to say there isn't tons of detail you can see in hi-def that you can't see in standard DVD?

BEWARE POPO BAWA !!!!!!!!

Not at all. Just that no one has come up with something that you cant see on sdvd. Again edges may be sharper and colors more vibrate but I doubt there is anything additional (That is stunning anyways) you can see on Bluray that you cant on standard.

^^Well, you doubt wrong, but I'll leave you in happy ignorance.

You also have apparently totally missed the fact the title of this thread is 'dicoveries in HD/DVD' meaning things you can see in Blu-ray OR DVD, but in your haste to put down the new format you missed that.

Par for the course I expect.

Where have I put down the new format????You are very sensitive. I havent seen any "new discoveries yet. Thats all Im saying. Why dont you contribute instead of constantly badgering me??? All im saying is that everything everyone has come up with is very visible in SDVD and Televsion. Someone even posted a picture. Please read all the posts to get a clearer picture instead of being overly sensitive. The title says HD/DVD. Which means to me HIGH DEFINITION DVD. Should be retitled properly if that is not the meaning of the thread. The only examples thus far have been Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. All of those can be seen on tv and sdvd. Again THATS ALL IM SAYING. The title and thread is misleading if it is to incorporate "any format your on" as the first post says, it should include Video tape than, CORRECT???... if we are to follow literally what that first post contains. It says "IMPROVED QUALITY DVD/Bluray. It can be read as Blu-Ray only. It should be SDVD/HDDVD(Bluray) Again he did put "any format" but we are talking "NEW DISCOVERIES" and Improved quality are we not??? So one is to assume recently, not dvd technology from 13 years ago or video from 20+ years ago.

AGAIN my take on "any format your on" means any HD-DVD format.(HDDVD and BLU-RAY) Hence the title of the thread and opening sentence. If the OP meant SDVD and Video tapes as well, it should have been clearer.

So when he mocks Blu-ray as 'nice & shiney' it's okay, but when i reply DVD is 'Lame & dull' it's rude?

Not mention stupid.

Nice and Shiny meaning colorful and sharp.

Dar70's posts seem reasonable to me, and not a bit rude. He correctly points out that these things we're noticing were visible in SD as well, but we just weren't looking closely enough.

Point well taken. I guess I've been married long enough that when my lack of attention is pointed out, I'm not offended.
