New To Voyager

The problem with long hair and no ears is it makes her look like a human, or a character who could be on any other television show.

If you are a Kes fan, have seen the signs in the sky (or more correctly seen the hints in this thread) and want to be spared from the worst, then visit the Kes Website (link below) to peek into the future.

There's some anger there. But most of all, there is also hope! :techman:

Most of all, it's a tribute to a great character!

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't Jennifer Lien part of the decision to cancel her character. I mean, let's face it, there was only so much that one can do with such a Character and they had explored about as much of it as possible. Seven on the other hand revealed herself to be more versatile and complex. Think of all the plot twists that she occasioned.

Also, it doesn't hurt that seven is a major league babe.

Yes, I will correct you because you are wrong.

Jennifer Lien had no intention of leaving Voyager until BB&T faced her with their decision. Since I get the impression that she's too nice and friendly for her own good, she offered no resistance. I really wish that she would have had my temper and my way of reaction to unjust treatment. I would have told those in charge where to go and would have told the whole world about my opinion of them too.

As for the character, the writers had no problem to come up with good Kes stories almost up to the day the character was dumped and the character itself was as "versatile and complex" that they could easily come up with even more good stories about the character.

I mean, if an amateur like me can come up with decent Kes stories, I expect the same from skilled, well-paid writers.

Not to mention that there were some good Voyager books where Kes was a prominent character too.

The decision to get rid of the character was wrong, unjustified and stupid.

I disagree, getting rid of Kes at the time they did, may have been one of their best managerial ideas. Seven was much more versatile and had much more potential. People were starting to get sick of the whole Ocampa thing, plus she didn't have the raw sex appeal of seven. They traded an OK actor for one top level, by any standard, this is a win. Note also, how much more interesting the stories become after Scorpion. There's no coincidence in that. I like to watch the entire series once a year but when I do, I make it a point to watch every one of them, even the clunkers. And I am telling you, after a while I long for the scorpion episode to come quick and see seven of nine popping out of her borg niche!

I never found Kes much of an interesting character. I don't know how much is due to how she was written, or if it's due to Jennifer's interpretation. Kes always seemed too passive and nice all the time.

I agree, even when she eats bugs, microwaves Tuvok, or is inhabited by a dictator. It just doesn't resonate.

Oy! Maru, to make a long story short, they had planned to fire Garret Wang, to make room in the budget for Jeri Ryan. There was a month maybe two, where the writers room probably had orders to think up adventures for Seven where Kes is either her big sister or her little sister...

I mean coming out of her 20 years inside the collective she should have been struggling for a role model to grease her adjustment into normal life, and using the Doctor how they did to teach her about humanity was just pervy... Sure there was only one episode were he actually convinced himself that he had a chance of bending her over a biobed, but all in all if they were going for Henry Higgins, it more seemed like Higgins from Magnum PI.

You can imagine Seven quickly outgrowing the Ocampan's tutelage, but then Kes was maturing at vastly accelerated rate emotionally and was probably about at the end of her sweet and innocent stage, and could have been about ready to be an adult.

I think it worked out fine with Janeway as a mentor. Try as I may, I can't picture Kes as being seven's tutor or role model or whatever. Plus kes would have been getting older and older rather quickly. Although in "before and after", we can see that Kes doesn't appear to be aged until she's one year away from death which on Voyager means that she could still keep up appearances until the last of the seventh season (when she would be close to her eighth birthday).

What saved Wang's ass was People magazine named him a Beautiful Person, so producers decided to keep him on for the publicity. So you had a hot guy, a hot chick waiting in the wings, and someone had to be cut.

Do you really believe that things would have turned out better if they had fired kim or dispensed with seven?

They could have played it as the two outsiders, especially as Kes moved further and further away from Neelix.

So if not Seven's mentor, then her sister, BFF girlfriend and lover. It would be Kes who socialized Seven, and only Kes would occasionally call her Annika.

Janeway would remain the mentor, and the Doctor more of a father figure.

Plus kes would have been getting older and older rather quickly.
The Ocampa might spend the majority of their lives in a state of youth, shooting through mid-age and old-age only in the last couple of months of their lives.

And yes, they might had her die on the show.

:)

It doesn't matter what I believe, that's what they did.

And then there's the lesbian tension that NEVER results in a kiss no matter how tense it gets.

If Kes stayed, it would have put Tom back into play.

Even if she wasn't massively in love with him, she remembered loving her grandson Andrew in the future quite well, and the only way to get there was through Tom's wang and then Wang's wang.

A wang too far if you ask me.

I just can't wrap my head around Garret Wang being included in People's Most Beautiful. If I had to pick the best looking guy out of the crew, I'd pick Tom.

I'd pick Wang as the most attractive male on the crew easily, but it's not exactly a lot of competition. For teh menz, see Enterprise. That's where you get all the good ones.

We've seen that with certain actors, I've sat through such things at cons and it is never pretty. It always makes the actor look terrible. Lien has a nice reputation from her time on VOY, this would not have been the case if she behaved this way.
