New To Voyager

Yeah I won't spoil you! Just wait. :) Though if you're a Kes fan you might get a bit angry...

If you are a Kes fan, have seen the signs in the sky (or more correctly seen the hints in this thread) and want to be spared from the worst, then visit the Kes Website (link below) to peek into the future.

There's some anger there. But most of all, there is also hope! :techman:

Most of all, it's a tribute to a great character!

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't Jennifer Lien part of the decision to cancel her character. I mean, let's face it, there was only so much that one can do with such a Character and they had explored about as much of it as possible. Seven on the other hand revealed herself to be more versatile and complex. Think of all the plot twists that she occasioned.

Also, it doesn't hurt that seven is a major league babe.

Yes indeed Jennifer Lien went to Braga and BEGGED to be released from her Voyager bondage and he graciously set her free.

No Kobayashi, she did not ask to lose her health Insurance.

It was Beltran who protested that the writers room had it's thumb up it's ass, but not only did they leave him alone, but they made him kiss Jeri Ryan a lot.

Life's a bitch and then you die.

Jennifer is a nutritionist these days.

You have to wonder if at least half her clients are closet trekkies pretending that they're on Voyager?

She was having a skin reaction to the ear makeup and eventually stopped wearing the appliances. That probably contributed to the decision of who to cut from the show. That, and not being one of People Magazine's 50 Hottest People, unlike some dark haired ethnic looking person.

Because you want them to say candy, ice cream, hot dogs, and sugared breakfast cereals. And pizza.

If by part of the decision to cancel her character you mean "when she received and read the script that was writing her out of the show, she screamed her head off..." then yes.

That was what I recall Lien saying about it.

Under their breath maybe, but if they outright said that to her, that she had to endure a persistent allergic reaction in defiance of a medical certificate she had appropriated citing a clear and present risk to her health, then that would be grounds for a wrongful termination suit with reference to the Americans with disabilities act.

(Way too much lawyer TV.)

She's a nutritionist? You mean she's given up acting altogether? That's surprising!

If they were using spirit gum to apply the ears, yeah that can be uncomfortable just using for six nights in a play. Wearing that crap for 8-16 hours a day, every day, for 3 years? Forget it.

When she went through her Elogium they should have had her ears moult as a normal part of the biological event and then she could have had human ears.

Ethan Phillips probably had it worst than any other specialty character regular in Star Trek. It had to be the most complicated makeup for a series regular and rough on his skin. But he was in or near his 40s, which is a lot different than being a 20 year old woman putting that crap on every day.

I was more thinking that a 40 year old man's skin is probably less susceptible to irritations than a 20 year old woman's.

All young women wear too much make up.

Marriage usually fixes that.

An allergy, which probably in this case meant a nasty rash that wouldn't go away, is quite different from "I don't feel like it, so I want special treatment for no reason."

It's really not that much difference form when they had to make Jeri Ryan a new sexy cat suit after the silver one that they spent half a million dollars advertising across the world, was so tight that it triggered fainting spells, and decency prevailed.

Did Jeri need a medical certificate, or was the fact that she was periodically unconscious self evidence of an endemic problem?

Meanwhile did Janeway lose her Bun for Medical reasons (the wig weighs 8 pounds! It got caught in a ceiling fan yesterday.) or stylistic reasons from the writers room?

Meanwhile what a fucking concession the wardrobe awarded Robbie Duncan McNeil by letting his suit out a couple inches inbetween seasons without making any fuss!

Where did B'Elanna's season one groucho eyebrows go?

Yes, I will correct you because you are wrong.

Jennifer Lien had no intention of leaving Voyager until BB&T faced her with their decision. Since I get the impression that she's too nice and friendly for her own good, she offered no resistance. I really wish that she would have had my temper and my way of reaction to unjust treatment. I would have told those in charge where to go and would have told the whole world about my opinion of them too.

As for the character, the writers had no problem to come up with good Kes stories almost up to the day the character was dumped and the character itself was as "versatile and complex" that they could easily come up with even more good stories about the character.

I mean, if an amateur like me can come up with decent Kes stories, I expect the same from skilled, well-paid writers.

Not to mention that there were some good Voyager books where Kes was a prominent character too.

The decision to get rid of the character was wrong, unjustified and stupid.
