New TNG

Just one man's opinion here, but I kinda thought Jean Reno could make a good Picard. Granted, he's currently about 10 years older than Patrick Stewart when he started on TNG, but he's got the war-weary vet look, has a commanding screen presence (the Pink Panther movies notwithstanding), and being a French national certainly doesn't hurt.

What? Someone actually playing the nationality they come from? STONE Him!!! :rommie:

You know who I think would make a great Data? Tony Hale from Arrested Development. He has that quirkiness and intellect that define Data to me.

I signed up to this site to talk about baldness in the 24th century (see a couple pages ago).

I absolutely loved a part of an interview with Patrick Stewart where he touched on this. It went something along the lines of Stewart telling Roddenberry he had the wrong man for the job as surely they have cured baldness by that time. Rodenberry replied "By the 24th century, no one will care.". Classic optimism from the great bird.

As for a new next gen, I'd like it taken literally. I want to see 70 years beyond TNG. (TNTNG?).

I would bring in a totally new creative team and do everything different, none of the same characters or set designs, something more in line with TOS.

Well it would have to be a space opera like Star Trek. Hopefully not called TNG with a Captain over fifty again. A reimagined sequal to TOS never the less. Even a different ship would be interesting.

I like the ideas about giving the characters a far deeper psychological background. To that end, I would eliminate the "perfect federation" concept and have far more interpersonal drama that isn't imposed by aliens.

Riker should also be cast by a younger actor and be more of an upstart rather than an organization man. His romantic relationship with Troi should be active, or at least on-again, off-again.

Tasha Yar is unnecessary with Worf on the bridge, just like the real TNG. However there should be a younger female character on the crew, possibly replacing Wesley. To that end, I would remove all the technobabble aspects and make Geordi a much more minor character.
Riker should be more agressive toward Picard, During the the first season didn't you get the feeling that Picard never went near a airlock if Riker was standing behind him? Deanna would still be in love with Riker, but he had long moved on. They would still be lovers, with Riker using her for sex, and then dumping her all over again. Time and again Deanna would lap up the abuse, dominance games..... And drop the whole counselor thing, make Deanna the ships version of the "temple prostitute", if only to keep Wesley off the bridge.....More effort to showcase just how Worfs' culture and personal beliefs are different from the human mainstream.....More second row charactors like Ro, O'brian,Guinan and such. rotate them in and out over the seasons......Something like babylon fives' multiple store arc, A-B-C story lines, some which play-out over years.

Ah, come on. Now that's just being biased against mature men :).

It's just demographically more logical to have a younger Captain for the 18 - to 30 catagory. Besides people want to grow with them spiritually.

If you had the chance to go back and do a reimaginging of TNG, what would you change about it?

For example, as there is more prosthetics available now would u change the look of Data to make him look more robotic or futuristic?

Would u change the uniforms or any of the characters?

I would make these the standard Uniforms of the series:

Out of jacket
Female
Female with skirt
Dress uniform
Alternate uniform
vest
Admiral
Captain's alt
Engineer, Doctor
Counselor (1, 2)

Direct ties from the movie, with a new twist on it. Film the series in HD, have Betazoids have blue or green eyes only, and not have Tasha killed, but transferred off ship, not so many bland episodes, but have conflict in the crew that's legitimate, and expand the supporting cast like DS9. The original TNG made it seem like those 7 people were all that mattered in the show. There are 1007 other people who apparently did nothing on the show.

There were recurring characters on TNG, great ones actually (Ro Laren, Barclay). DS9 worked out better in that regard from being stationary, whereas in TNG they'd always be on the move. Have some kind of subplot every once in a while that allowed for them to stick around in an area and THEN the recurring character thing would make more sense, seeing how most of DS9's recurring characters weren't Starfleet.

As for your uniform designs, I agreed they were good but I actually like the designs they were going to use for GEN+ more:

I don't think Star Trek has created better uniforms than the jumpsuits from the beginning of DS9 and VOY. Those looked good and they looked efficient. Would have worked out well if they just used those from the start of TNG.
